I've been doing research to figure out if I can create a style that incorporates a Print link/button like what efiction has on it's story pages. Here's an example of what page looks like before you hit the print link/button Here here's what it looks like afterwords It probably would have been a better example to use an Angst Archive story...but the ( Read more... )

if you find a solution, OHH please do tell right away.
I have several workarounds, from online solutions to ff addons plugins and whatever, but srsly, its all cumbersome...

why cant LJ just provide us with a clean print alike layout?!?!?!?

I'm looking into learning how to code Ruby so I can help out with the OTW and maybe create a code that will automatically convert OTW archived stories into ebooks...

I'm really hoping people will really use the OTW archive in conjunction with LJ or in the place of LJ.

I'm also highly annoyed that the LJ developers haven't done anything about creating a print version link/style. They know their code backwards and forwards.

I'm hoping after I learn Ruby I'll have a better understanding of coding and can hopefully learn how to make my own extensions. I did find BookIt at the MobileRead forums that has a lot of potential. Working properly it'll allow you to select text and will convert to LRF/epub/mobi on the spot. only problem is the developer has been awol and for some reason the select function isn't working.

or , if they are not going to the AO3 yet, at least, using their DW account, coz at least, that allows much much longer entries than LJ. Stories that have to be split up into several posts on LJ can easily fit in one DW entry ( ... )

I tried scrapblog too...I think I tried 99% of what you listed and it's so frustrating because it's close! but the not being able to save what you select is incredibly annoying!

I checked out modifying my own LJ style and changing the css print view but it was a bit beyond my skill levels. :(

24 hours later, and all solutions I have been shown, are more or less workarounds as well.

I mean, it seems so strange, like actually I think, the stf addon is almost what I want, the only tweak would be instead of saving the highlighted part as txt, all I want is , that its html.
how awefully hard could that be???

alas, I no nothing of coding, maybe its awefully hard :(

Maybe we can write and ask the coders if it would be possible to add a html option? and keep the text option?

I am going to leave a comment to STF enderwiggin24 November 23 2009, 10:36:16 UTC
though, sadly as I mentioned before, the original coder / developer seemed to have disappeared.
maybe some other reader / users will pick it up, and modify it, if they see my comment.

Did they share their source code?

I don't think so, enderwiggin24 November 24 2009, 23:58:15 UTC
but on the board, one of the guys said:

such a little change can be done by everyone who can handle a plain text editor. The addon code is usually somewhere in the extensions folder of your profile in plain text as a .js file.

the addon is only 5 kb large, so I have no clue about coding, but should I ever find this extension folder of my ff installation.......
sighs.

I hope, you are doing okay.
you are probably still processing the news from your family..
*hugs*
