more Twin Peaks

Thinking this stuff is what I do at work to keep myself sane.

I know that Cooper/Audrey was intended as a ship, and that Kyle MacLachlan
objected, and that some fans were annoyed and still see Coop/Audrey as an
OTP, but I like the way it worked out in the show. And I agree with
MacLachlan (no matter what his motivation was at the time, whcih as been
debated) that Cooper wouldn't date Audrey, because she was a high school
student and too young for him. It just doesn't fit with his moral outlook -
it would be taking advantage. And Audrey's crush seemed to me to be about
how she was neglected by her father and looking for an escape from Twin
Peaks, looking for excitement. I could totally see them together when she
got older and more independent, but at the time? Nope.

I love the scene where she shows up in his bed, and he tells her what she
needs is a friend, because I think she loved him all the more for it. It was
done with such skill, and respect for her as a character, that she took it
exactly in the spirit with which it was offered. And refreshing, that
Cooper admits his attraction and doesn't act on it, and is totally honest
with her as to why, without being condescending or lascivious about it.
Lovely writing and acting, that scene. Part of me thinks what Audrey really
wanted was to *be* Cooper -- she saw his job as new and exciting, and her
comment about Denise (women can be FBI agents! omg!) affirms that for me.

Another show would have had Audrey redouble her attempts at seduction; this
one lets her grow beyond her puppy-love.
