My only candidate for a total obsession atm is chocolate boy, but it's not gonna happen, 'cause I don't get to see him that often, and it involves tennis, which we all know can bring teh sad, and he's going to retire next year, and he sometimes loses 5-set marathons on my birthday and makes me cry. So only a semi-obsession for me.
I love the story of your step-dad. That is so cool. I introduced my brother to his now husband, which is not as cool, but it always makes me think I had, like, this ~decisive~ influence over their lives. And then, you know, sort of "Mwahehehehe I haz teh powah!" *hand rubby* (ok, so I'm a closet megalomaniac).
About the loving and losing thing...I dunno, either. My impression is that, no, losing people just pretty much sucks and there's nothing to idealize there. Maybe for teenage infatuations that at the time you thought ZOMG WE'LL BE TOGETHER UNTIL WE DIIIIEE or I WILL DIE WITHOUT HIM/HER, but now you know that it was really just puppy love, and it's kind of amusing in a "omgz what a dickhead I was" sort of way. :-P
And lol, brainshare, I've thought of a fucking machine too, but it changes names every now and then. :-PP

No, not right now. He's retiring by the end of next year. I can understand it, because he'll be 34 by then, so yeah...but still...*tears* And he's been doing really well since September, so maybe he'll be in Barcelona next year. *fingers crossed*
