N: Well, good evening! This is Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya. Tonight’s opening thought comes from radio pen name Kaigai ni itemo Arashic-san (*I’m an Arashi fan even overseas). Let’s see what she says. “I’m now an 8th grader living in Indonesia. There was a sports meet held at my Japanese school the other day. There aren’t many students enrolled, but we get really hyped up cheering for our team. My team danced to ‘Troublemaker’. Those who attend regular, public schools also got a kick out of it. I’m happy that an Arashi song I love helped make the sports meet a blast.”
N: Isn’t this amazing? Whaaat?! She says, “I’m now in Indonesia,” so does that mean she used to live in Japan? I wonder. But her name is foreign, it’s Indonesian... is she Indonesian? Wow! I’ve never seen such a mailing address before. Huh... do we get lots of mail from fans living in foreign countries? How are they listening to my show? Wow. I see, oh! I see. I’m delighted. 8th grade, huh? “Troublemaker”. It feels like ages ago when we released “Troublemaker”! Has it only been a year or so? A year and a half. It was near New Years... it was at the beginning of the year, I believe. I see.
N: Well, I’m always looking for opening thoughts to shout out, so send in your detailed stories. This is Kazunari Ninomiya’s BayStorm with tonight’s opening number. This is “Maru Maru Mori Mori!” by Kaoru to Tomoki, Tamani Mook.

N: That was Kaoru to Tomoki, Tamani Mook., with “Maru Maru Mori Mori!” All right! This is Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya bringing you BayStorm. Let’s move on to this segment!
STBY: “Please! Let’s Settle This Peacefully!”

N: He’s energetic in this one. Did we always have this version? Oh. I see. Well, I guess I don’t really remember.
N: This is by radio pen name Summer Splash wo hebirote-chu-san (*note: I’ve been playing Summer Splash on repeat). “After entering high school, many people tell me that my last name is cool, or that I seem rich. But in reality, I’m just your average Jane. It’s sad enough that I only get compliments regarding my last name, but for those who know my last name and expected something grand, I’m sorry for letting you all down. Also, just out of curiosity, does STBY have an unusual last name?”
N: Oh, I see. This last name here. I see, I see. I get it, I do. It’s got the same effect as Domyoji. Names do give an impression of their own. “Does STBY have an unusual last name?” she asks. I’m quite sure everyone has come across his last name. Tsubasa-kun has the same last name. (*note: Imai Tsubasa) Yeah... I feel sorry for Tsubasa-kun. That’s what I’m saying, the impression names can give others. That can’t be helped. Hm...
N: It’s another story if you’ve got an incredibly, popular last name. But if you have a name that isn’t that popular... like “Aiba”. I think I’ve only met one of those, Aiba-kun. But near Mr. Aiba’s hometown, his neighborhood, there are tons of “Aiba”s. He says there are a lot! But only someone like he comes to mind when I hear that name. I guess it’s my impression, that has to be it.
N: Next! This is by radio pen name Uchi no inu wa watashi yori otetsudai-san ni natsuiteru ki ga suru-san (*I have a feeling my dog likes the maid more than it likes me). She’s got a maid? Wow. “I’m a 15-year-old wanting to get a pet hedgehog. I’m one to put my ideas into action right away, so I’ve begun preparations for welcoming a hedgehog into my home. I searched for a veterinary hospital nearby and gave them a call. ‘Excuse me, do you have services for hedgehogs?’ The receptionist stifled laughter as she said, ‘I’m sorry, we don’t have services for hedgehogs.’ I thought, ‘Why not? How rude.’ However, after I researched some more, I found out that that vet hospital was only for cats and dogs. I was the loony for asking about hedgehogs, and yet, I took a disliking for the receptionist. I’m sorry.”
N: They don’t give check-ups? Hedgehogs... what do they get checked-up for, now that I think about it. Where do hedgehogs get check-ups? That’s not right, I mean, there aren’t vet hospitals specializing in mice in the first place. [looks at producer] Why couldn’t she take them there? Oh, really?! I didn’t know some vet hospitals have services some others don’t. But I guess that makes sense. You’d feel safer taking your pet to a specialist.
N: This is by radio pen name STBY-san ni baraado utatte hoshii-san (*note: I want STBY to sing a ballad). “I take the train to commute to school. One day, after watching GANTZ with my friend, I took the usual ride home. Someone was bleeding from the nose at an incredible speed as they approached and sat next to me. I was stricken with horror and couldn’t do a thing at the time, but in hindsight, I should have asked if they were okay and offered some tissues. I’m terribly sorry. I still remember the events from that day whenever I watch the GANTZ DVD.”
N: But that is scary. Yeah. “Someone was bleed- ” [looks at producer] No, no, that’s not what she means by “incredible speed”. It’s not how quickly they approached her. You’re swinging your arms there, but I think she means this, the nosebleed part, how they were bleeding profusely. Did they not know they were bleeding? No, they had to have known. Wow... that’s scary. You wouldn’t be able to ask if they’re okay.
N: GANTZ, huh? The other day, my cousin...? I saw my uncle. And we got to talking about how he saw GANTZ. It had been a while since I last spoke with him. There wasn’t much to talk about, that’s why he probably brought up this topic. So I asked, “Oh, really? How was it?” He replies, “I really... didn’t understand it.” [laugh] But that’s understandable. That’s how it is. He watched it because a relative starred in it. That’s how relatives are, I’m sure of it. They go “because Kazu is in it”. If that’s the only reason, then yeah, they aren’t going to understand the movie. He told me that out of the blue, it surprised me.
N: This is by radio pen name Watashi no sofu wa aru imi Kaibutsu-kun (*note: My grandfather is Kaibutsu-kun in a way). Uh... “This happened the other day when I was taking part in discussing the school festival at my high school. The discussion wasn’t in our usual classroom, so I got there early to snag a seat. However, I was worried because my chair was really wobbly. Since no one else had arrived yet, I switched chairs. After a while, a guy in my class sat in the wobbly chair. He said, ‘What the heck? This chair is so wobbly! But I’ll be okay since I’m a lightweight.’ But just seconds later, the chair made loud, cracking noises as it broke. Of course, he’s become the laughing stock of our class. I shouldn’t have exchanged chairs. I feel awful; I’m really sorry.”
N: Is there such a chair?! I mean, there must be, that’s why she wrote to this show. But it’s rare for them to actually break. Um... they’re the ones with the iron legs, or wooden ones, right? The ones at school. Maybe they’re different now. She’s 17 years old; she’s in high school. Maybe they’ve changed. When I was in high school, we only had those iron fold-up chairs. My school, anyway. There was one, long table per every three students. It was more like a cram school. There wasn’t any place to store our textbooks. No storage space under the table, no. We also didn’t learn every subject in the same classroom. It was like, “Japanese literature is in this room.” Seriously, it was more like a cram school. [laugh] It was tough, having to haul my textbooks around. There aren’t many chairs that actually break. And it’s amazing they could laugh about it. I’m positive I wouldn’t be able to laugh if something like that happened. I’d think, “Whaaat?!” I guess it was spectacular enough to cause laughter.

N: First up is by radio pen name Nino-chan no engi ga koishii-san (*note: I miss your acting, Nino-chan). “I heard there’ll be a Freeter, Ie wo Kau SP. I was sad not being able to see your acting lately, so I’m happy to hear the news! Are you already filming? What did you talk about with the cast members after seeing them all again? If you have any behind-the-scenes stories, do let me know.”
N: It’s a lot of work! Everyone’s probably busy. They want to film as much as they can while everyone is around. That’s the feeling I got. It was lots of work. I’m not that busy so I took my time filming, but each of the actors... well, not each of them, but say, Takenaka-san. He’s got a stage play to do. It was the day the stage play began, so it was hard for him. I bet it was hardest work for Takenaka-san, though he was joking around. We filmed for the drama even on the first day of his stage play. And that day, he had too much on his plate. He paced around a lot. The stage play was at 7pm, and even then, he filmed until about noon. That’s hard work. If I was in his position, I wouldn’t be able to do it. Yeah, I wouldn’t be able to do anything, at least regarding this. Impossible! Okay, maybe not impossible, but I wouldn’t want to do that. [laugh] I’d think, “You’re joking.” Mm, that’s tough. It was fun for me, though.
N: This is by radio pen name Kurono-chan suki-san (*note: I love Kurono-chan). “On July 28th, GANTZ began airing in theaters in Korea.” So it says! Wow! “It was like a dream seeing you on screen in Korea. My friend went to the film festival and the private screening, so this was her sixth time watching GANTZ. I liked Nishi-kun in the manga, but after the movie, I fell in love with Kurono-kun. It must be thanks to you, Ninomiya-kun. On August 11th, PERFECT ANSWER also began showing, so I’m definitely going to go see that!”
N: Wow~! Isn’t that amazing? How come news like this never reach me, like, “It’ll be showing in Korea”? I read the newspapers and find out that the movie is scheduled to show in different locations, and I think, “Oh, is that so?” But I don’t hear about it actually playing. I heard that there were plans to air it in different countries, but I don’t get confirmation that it actually did. I only know about the plans. I’m much happier hearing news like this, that it’s actually being played in theaters. Wow~! I mean, it must be in theaters... after announcing that various movies will be in theaters in different countries. Even then, it surprises me to hear something like this! And how interesting that this person thought to write and send mail this show, this Korean person. Well~!
N: This is by radio pen name Nino to Riida ga nomi ni itta rashii yo-san (*note: I heard Nino and Riida went drinking together). “I saw the new commercial with you and Sho-kun. You two were running about the house. I could especially sense some speed when you ran up those stairs. Wasn’t it tiring climbing those stairs?”
N: It’s much easier to run up the stairs. Don’t you think so? It’s much more tiring walking up. No way, I definitely... I’d much rather run up the stairs. T-Today, I went from the first floor to the third... was it the fourth? I was climbing up, was it the third floor? Anyway, when I was going up, I stopped to rest on the first floor, then in between the first and second floor, then the second, then between the second and third floor, then the third... that means I’m climbing up four times. So really, if you have to climb up four stories, it’s better if you run. It’s way too tiring walking up that distance. You tire out more if you walk. Why is that? I prefer running that for some reason.
N: This is by radio pen name Nino no masuku-sugata kawaikatta yo-san (*note: You looked really cute with a face mask, Nino). “The curry that Furuta Arata-san introduced during Arashi ni Shiyagare looked incredibly spicy. Were you okay? What do you remember most from Furuta-san’s visit? Also, did you cut your hair? Let me know.”
N: You know, I feel like I’ve been eating something spicy every week. This was spicy, but... really, though. I’ve been eating so much spicy food recently. That kebab was spicy, and... I had to eat spicy curry on Arashi-chan (*note: Himitsu no Arashi-chan), too. I don’t even know anymore, really. Did I cut my hair? For the drama, yes, yes. That’s the only reason why I cut it. But yeah... there are some tough times.
N: This is by radio pen name Senshuu paama wo kakemashita-san (*note: I got a perm last week). “The other day on his radio show, Aiba-chan was talking about gestures he finds attractive in the opposite sex. Aiba-chan’s answer, for some odd reason, was something like, ‘Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair’. Do you take a liking to any gestures? If you do, let me know.”
N: “Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair”... or something like that. How... expressive, that Mr. Aiba. Is that even a gesture? Right?! As for me...? Anything. I’m sure I’d like any gesture. There are some things that you get hooked on, though you thought you wouldn’t initially. That’s the difference between what you say and what you actually do. Anything. I’m okay with anything. Maybe I don’t have a preference, in other words. If I’m okay with anything, then nothing in particular comes to mind.
N: “Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair”... thinking about it some more, that makes absolutely no sense. I mean, a gesture is something like, “the way she puts up her hair”, right? “Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair”? [laugh] What does that even mean? Is he really doing his job on the radio? Does he run the show alone? There must be two or three people there, that’s probably the case. Otherwise, there’s no way he could have come to this conclusion. “Hm~ let’s see. A gesture I find attractive? Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair.” That’s just strange, isn’t it? Don’t you agree? But I guess that’s Aiba-san for you.

N: First up is by radio pen name Nino-chan no engi ga koishii-san (*note: I miss your acting, Nino-chan). “I heard there’ll be a Freeter, Ie wo Kau SP. I was sad not being able to see your acting lately, so I’m happy to hear the news! Are you already filming? What did you talk about with the cast members after seeing them all again? If you have any behind-the-scenes stories, do let me know.”
N: It’s a lot of work! Everyone’s probably busy. They want to film as much as they can while everyone is around. That’s the feeling I got. It was lots of work. I’m not that busy so I took my time filming, but each of the actors... well, not each of them, but say, Takenaka-san. He’s got a stage play to do. It was the day the stage play began, so it was hard for him. I bet it was hardest work for Takenaka-san, though he was joking around. We filmed for the drama even on the first day of his stage play. And that day, he had too much on his plate. He paced around a lot. The stage play was at 7pm, and even then, he filmed until about noon. That’s hard work. If I was in his position, I wouldn’t be able to do it. Yeah, I wouldn’t be able to do anything, at least regarding this. Impossible! Okay, maybe not impossible, but I wouldn’t want to do that. [laugh] I’d think, “You’re joking.” Mm, that’s tough. It was fun for me, though.
N: This is by radio pen name Kurono-chan suki-san (*note: I love Kurono-chan). “On July 28th, GANTZ began airing in theaters in Korea.” So it says! Wow! “It was like a dream seeing you on screen in Korea. My friend went to the film festival and the private screening, so this was her sixth time watching GANTZ. I liked Nishi-kun in the manga, but after the movie, I fell in love with Kurono-kun. It must be thanks to you, Ninomiya-kun. On August 11th, PERFECT ANSWER also began showing, so I’m definitely going to go see that!”
N: Wow~! Isn’t that amazing? How come news like this never reach me, like, “It’ll be showing in Korea”? I read the newspapers and find out that the movie is scheduled to show in different locations, and I think, “Oh, is that so?” But I don’t hear about it actually playing. I heard that there were plans to air it in different countries, but I don’t get confirmation that it actually did. I only know about the plans. I’m much happier hearing news like this, that it’s actually being played in theaters. Wow~! I mean, it must be in theaters... after announcing that various movies will be in theaters in different countries. Even then, it surprises me to hear something like this! And how interesting that this person thought to write and send mail this show, this Korean person. Well~!
N: This is by radio pen name Nino to Riida ga nomi ni itta rashii yo-san (*note: I heard Nino and Riida went drinking together). “I saw the new commercial with you and Sho-kun. You two were running about the house. I could especially sense some speed when you ran up those stairs. Wasn’t it tiring climbing those stairs?”
N: It’s much easier to run up the stairs. Don’t you think so? It’s much more tiring walking up. No way, I definitely... I’d much rather run up the stairs. T-Today, I went from the first floor to the third... was it the fourth? I was climbing up, was it the third floor? Anyway, when I was going up, I stopped to rest on the first floor, then in between the first and second floor, then the second, then between the second and third floor, then the third... that means I’m climbing up four times. So really, if you have to climb up four stories, it’s better if you run. It’s way too tiring walking up that distance. You tire out more if you walk. Why is that? I prefer running that for some reason.
N: This is by radio pen name Nino no masuku-sugata kawaikatta yo-san (*note: You looked really cute with a face mask, Nino). “The curry that Furuta Arata-san introduced during Arashi ni Shiyagare looked incredibly spicy. Were you okay? What do you remember most from Furuta-san’s visit? Also, did you cut your hair? Let me know.”
N: You know, I feel like I’ve been eating something spicy every week. This was spicy, but... really, though. I’ve been eating so much spicy food recently. That kebab was spicy, and... I had to eat spicy curry on Arashi-chan (*note: Himitsu no Arashi-chan), too. I don’t even know anymore, really. Did I cut my hair? For the drama, yes, yes. That’s the only reason why I cut it. But yeah... there are some tough times.
N: This is by radio pen name Senshuu paama wo kakemashita-san (*note: I got a perm last week). “The other day on his radio show, Aiba-chan was talking about gestures he finds attractive in the opposite sex. Aiba-chan’s answer, for some odd reason, was something like, ‘Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair’. Do you take a liking to any gestures? If you do, let me know.”
N: “Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair”... or something like that. How... expressive, that Mr. Aiba. Is that even a gesture? Right?! As for me...? Anything. I’m sure I’d like any gesture. There are some things that you get hooked on, though you thought you wouldn’t initially. That’s the difference between what you say and what you actually do. Anything. I’m okay with anything. Maybe I don’t have a preference, in other words. If I’m okay with anything, then nothing in particular comes to mind.
N: “Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair”... thinking about it some more, that makes absolutely no sense. I mean, a gesture is something like, “the way she puts up her hair”, right? “Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair”? [laugh] What does that even mean? Is he really doing his job on the radio? Does he run the show alone? There must be two or three people there, that’s probably the case. Otherwise, there’s no way he could have come to this conclusion. “Hm~ let’s see. A gesture I find attractive? Someone who doesn’t make fun of my armpit hair.” That’s just strange, isn’t it? Don’t you agree? But I guess that’s Aiba-san for you.
