These days the symbols and myths of America have very little value to modern Americans except on 4th of July (and maybe during Presidential elections).
The slow erosion of patriotism started with the JFK assasination and Watergate, and has been accelerated by the global culture of the Internet.
Even events of 9-11 have not reversed this trend in the overall sense.
