Am watching Ground Force (BBC America) and getting geared up to work in the garden. I really hope the wind dies down. The past few days, it has been impossible to work outside -- due to the blasted wind. I really shouldn't complain. On every episode of Ground Force, it rains. I assume you've heard of one theory on the etymology of the verb "to fuck."

One of the theories is that it comes from an old English or Germanic word that meant to push or insert. I can't find the reference online, but I recall their example was translated to modern English as "fucking seeds into the ground in springtime"

I'll give you dollar if you say - loudly - in some cafe or bookstore, "Man, I am so tired. I was fucking in the garden all day yesterday."

the joys of the irrepressible Ground Force team - bless them and their bonkers Britishness. I think it is the tea that keeps them going, or the fact that the weather here is always shite and if they waited for the rain to stop there simply would be no show...
