I was reading an entry in Live Journal from one of my favorite authors about all the rejection letters she got before she was finally published. I couldn't believe how narrow minded some publishers are and how well they thought they knew the market when they really didn't. Even if I did, I'm seriously lacking in motivation to write.
There are a lot of talented writers who've given up trying to get themselves published by a House and adopted eBooks instead, becoming more self-published and self-promoted.
A lot of it is crap, but there are some diamonds in the rough, too. I haven't looked too deeply into it, but if you're anxious for something fresh and surprising, maybe that's something.
