About a fic I'm probably not going to write, and one that I just wrote

I had a thought about Kyou Kara Maou the other day: A femslash writer really has very little to work with there! (I understand why, but still...) There are a handful of female characters that are all good, but there's very little interaction between them, unlike the male characters, obviously. This is about men/boys and their relationships, mostly. (The only canon-based het pairings are Yuuri's parents, Chérie/Fanvalen and her past lovers/husbands, and maybe Gwendal/Anissina.)

It's possible to ship Chérie/Anissina (because they live in the same house and sometimes team up against the men), or Gisela/Julia (in the past), or Chérie/anyone... A threesome of maids would be possible as well, but there are no arguments for it except that "if nothing else works, try pwp"... Chérie and Fluurin are also two women who actually have a couple of scenes (like two?) together. I could almost imagine Chérie/Miko-Jennifer, had it not been for the fact that they've never met and the Shibuyas are so happily married...

Next thought: What if Gwendal had been a woman... *sighs dreamily* I've never written something like that but if I did, it would be... very silly, totally badfic but not even crack, just my lesbian fangirl imagination gone crazy.

But how about this: What if the roles of KKM were the complete opposite! I mean, for real. What if all the main characters were women, and Chérie, Anissina, etc were men! Would I still ship Lady Gwendal/girl!Yozak? Probably. Would there still be so many Yuuram fics out there? Probably not! I've seen fics where one of them have been a girl, but not both of them.

Also, I happened to come across a French discussion forum where a girl tried to explain why there is so much yaoi, but "good" yuri is hard to find. (I know nothing about this, but it seems to be that way.) According to her, then, it's simple: There are lots and lots of straight girls who think that gay guys are hot/cute/exciting/whatever (that's something I've learned from LJ!) so there's room for a whole lot of different styles and sub genres within this genre. But yuri is for straight guys, and they're only in it for the porn so that's why there's very little more than that.

Well, that may be true. What bugged me with her reasoning was that she made it sound like there are no actual lesbians in real life. Or, for that matter, any gay men. I think it's pretty fascinating, somehow, this the straight girl's fascination with gay men. Why is that? And I wonder, are gay guys equally into fandom, reading fanfics by female writers? (Most people I have met on the net seems to have been women; from the top of my head I can only remember two guys on LJ right now! Both of them writing femslash...) Are they writing it? If I were a gay man, what would I be into? Would I still be shipping Conrad/Günter, or would KKM be just "meh" to me? I write slash too, as you know, sometimes. And I get the warm and fluffy feelings from Sherlock (for instance) as much as anyone, it's just that more often than not, there's this other element in the chorus of fangirl squee that I can understand and sympathize with but not fully relate to...

And I think I lost the point of this post a long time ago, I don't even remember why I started...
