There was a sudden absence of something a split second before the others vanished, like a gasp done backwards. But that nagging feeling was forgotten the instant Kwan vanished from sight, along with over half the guests. He stared in open mouthed shock, a horrified yell bubbling from his throat that gurgled into a confused groan.

Dan grinned widely at the darkness and took a deep breath and screamed.

it was long, it was loud, and it cut off suddenly.

At which point the lights turned back on, Dan sprawled on the floor pretending to be dead.
