After an uneventful journey, my companions and I reached Gemmel. There are major building works being undertaken. It appears a keep is being built around a tower. As we made our way to this tower, we were intercepted by a very large man, who introduced himself as Tocmar.
Although Tocmar looked like a builder’s labourer, he apparently was also an adventurer with Basiliar. (So, that makes Basilar, Tocmar, Bonal, and Mistress Nusmoi. I wonder if there were others.) At any rate, we have to get past him before we are allowed to see Basilar, so we told him why we were there, and handed over the papers to Basilar. They both seemed rather upset to hear of their erstwhile companion’s death, and indicated that we should leave them.
There was only one tavern to stay at, so we made our way to the Welcoming Wyvern. The Innkeeper, Jansen Borne, gave us a good deal on accommodation, and we managed to get private rooms with access to a bath.
After freshening up, I made my way downstairs, where I found my travelling companions chatting to some of the other guests at the inn. There was a big man by the name of Cobort, and he had a friend called Taruco. They seemed to be having a difference of opinion with someone who appeared to be the town drunk. Later I found out he was Jerom. His father is head of the local militia, and seems nice if useless.
We also found out a little about the town. Apparently it is on the border of Vorn and Helyassa, and there used to be a fortress here, a few hundred years ago I think. There doesn’t seem to be any sign of it now, so my guess it is ruins.
On a more national note: we were informed that King Halak of U-Lyshek died in a hunting accident, and his heir Prince Kier disappeared. The Priest of Yarth, formerly the King’s Chief Adviser, is now ruling the country ‘on behalf’ of Prince Kier until he is either found or confirmed dead.
So after dinner and a few drinks, it was off to a well earned rest, in a bed instead of on the ground.
