At least at The Chicago Tribune, they need to have a listed funeral home or crematorium so they can make sure that the person in an obit has actually, you know, DIED. Apparently this policy was established to close the barn door after the horses got out... Oops.
Also, obits, which were free under a certain word count where I came from are HELLA expensive now. I got the email in Friday WELL before the deadline for the Saturday paper...and they didn't get back to me, so we had to call to say, "Umm...whu?" and they gave us 1/3 off the price...which was still $90.50. ::gapes::
