Torchwood
Okay...so iingaartist and I have been watching Torchwood. We've been mostly enjoying it, as our expectations were fairly low. Tonight we got up through #7 ("They Keep Killing Suzie"--good makeup work, there) which I thought was quite a lot better, character-wise, than much of what's come before (which seems to be all about the blood, gore, sex, making out, swearing, and snogging at the expense of, oh, logical story or character development).
Now, I would like to say that I think Jack makes PERFECT sense. I didn't care for him in WWII so much as most did and I have a take on why he is what/how he is in this series that has been my assumption since ep.1 (to the extent that it took conversations with others to realize that I'd totally done this in my head and that the show HADN'T done/said it.
And yet I'm just like...what IS this? Owen is creepy and icky and then he's nicer...magically, except that he's still icky...and Rhys seems suddenly to have vanished...and they have old army tents and cots...and the CONSTANT sex doesn't develop it just is suddenly THERE, though in many ways I'm finding that they SELL it well enough in the performances to make me buy it so long as I don't THINK too much about it just appearing out of nowhere...and is there a point at all other than to say, "Dood! Look at ALL WE CAN GET AWAY WITH since this isn't 'kiddie television' on this show!!!! We can do, like, ANYTHING we WANT to!!!" and then playing with that with the abandon of an unfettered 7-year-old but with no purpose or point I can find.
I keep thinking, "Any time now, a thread will appear. It'll start to have a point. It'll make sense. There will be continuity." So far...I don't think that has happened. Irksome, even if I just counted on fluff and cute accents. I'm not sure where/how to categorize this in my head.
ETA: Also...where IS everyone? I mean, just because it's 1:00am central daylight time is NO REASON for all of everyone else who has seen TW to be away from their chat programs.
