Boys' Night Out
"Probie, parking garage, my car, ten minutes. And no lollygagging."
McGee stared at his phone for a moment after Tony hung up on him. His partner had disappeared the moment Gibbs let them go for the night, and McGee thought he'd already left.
Apparently not.
He shut down his computer, gathered his gear, and headed down to the garage, to find Tony leaning against the hood of his car.
"A whole two minutes to spare, Probie, I'm impressed," said Tony. "Now we're just waiting for- what took so long, Jimmy?"
"I had some things to put away," said Palmer, who was still shrugging into his jacket. "So, do you need a ride or something, Tony?"
"What?" the other man asked.
"Your fraternity cruise?" said McGee. "You're leaving today, aren't you?"
"Um... about that," Tony began. "You guys were right- I'm too old for Spring Break. And, I had something else I had to- but that's not important."
"Then you're not going?" asked Palmer.
"Nah," said Tony. "Really, it's just as well. I mean, I love that we've still got the whole eternal-brotherhood thing, but most of my frat brothers are, you know, lawyers or stock brokers. They still know how to party, sure, but eventually, we start talking about work, and after 'I carry a gun', there's not much I can tell them about all this."
McGee and Palmer looked at each other, then suddenly, McGee understood. Tony's frat brothers only knew him as the class clown who, ten years later, could still bong a beer.
He'd never saved their lives by risking his own.
He met Tony's eye- he knew McGee knew.
"We're not going to a strip club, are we?" McGee teased, as realization dawned for Palmer, too.
Tony grinned, all good humor again. "Just wait and see."
