How interesting you're a non-computer-first writer. It is indeed true, notebooks are harder to break. I do at times scribble down the odd scene or line if I've turned my computer off - and then have the 'joy' of trying to read it later *g*

Yes, I regularly have forgotten what I wrote by the time I get around to typing it up. My NCIS drabbles, and any others that need to be exactly 100 words, I do write directly on the computer, because otherwise I'd have to count the words myself.
