She smiled. “You were expecting a tragic backstory or a lecture on the emptiness of life?”
“I know you don’t believe life is empty,” he smiled back. “But you’ve got to admit, it’s a look, and I’m curious.”
“Curious enough to buy me dinner?” asked Abby, then added quickly, “As coworkers.”
“How about as friends?” Tony countered.
She grinned. “And maybe you can tell me why you act all dumb and shallow when you’re not.”
He smiled back. “Deal.”
