“Live long and prosper,” Boimler said, solemnly, then collapsed onto his bunk, head in his hands. “I can’t believe I couldn’t say that!”
Mariner sat beside him and rubbed his shoulder. “It’s okay.”
“It’s not okay!” he wailed. “I bungled a traditional Vulcan salutation, Spock must think I’m an idiot.”
“For that? Not for all the other stupid things you did?”
“Argh!”
“But, but,” said Mariner, hurriedly, “He did the salute after all the other stupid things you did. So, clearly, that wasn’t a factor.”
“Yeah?” said Boimler. “Yeah! Spock does respect me.”
“Whoa, I didn’t say-”
“Thanks, Mariner!”
