“You know,” Alanna said, casually, leaning on the training yard fence, “I think it took more courage for you to try for your shield than for me.”
Keladry’s Yamani training allowed her not to react. “Oh?”
The older woman laughed. “Oh, I was terrified of being discovered, but while I was actually training, I was accepted as a boy. But you, you wore a gown to supper every night.”
“I didn’t think of that as brave,” said Kel.
“And that is why you’ll inspire many more Lady Knights than I did,” said Alanna, and Kel could only bow her thanks.
