“He was my father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.”
“Really, Shawn?” muttered Gus.
“But we were very close,” Shawn added smoothly. “And this is my chauffer, Ovaltine Johnson.”
“We’re sorry for your loss,” said Gus, sincerely.
“Thank you.”
“We’re just so shocked,” continued Shawn. “He never mentioned anything to me that would be so dangerous. Did you know anything?”
“Well, there was something…” the boss began.
Shawn leaned over, fist held subtly at his side for Gus to bump with his own, before both schooled their expressions to sympathetic interest.
