recent blog post, I decided to see how many of the British Film Institute's top 50 films kids should see before the age of 14 I have seen, and which I saw before age 14:

- Toy Story YES / yes (I don't remember how or when I saw this, so I may have seen it when I was older...)
- Where is My Friend's House? NO
- The Wizard of Oz YES / yes (thanks to my Dad.)
- A Day at the Races NO
- The Adventures of Robin Hood NO
- Au revoir, les enfants YES / yes (saw it for French class)
- Back to the Future YES / yes (saw it with my Mom)
- Beauty and the Beast YES / yes (saw it for French class)
- La Belle et la Bete YES / yes? (I may have been 15 by the time I saw it for French class)
- Billy Elliot YES / yes (saw it with my Mom, one of my top ten movies of all-time. inspiring, great performances, incredible direction, truthful...)
- Edward Scissorhands YES / no (just saw it the first time last year actually, got it from LOVEfilm because I knew it was one of those movies I was supposed to see and b/c I wanted to see more of Johnny Depp's performances (got Ed Wood in the same batch))
- Etre et Avoir NO
- Finding Nemo YES / no (only because I was already 16 when it came out, saw it in theaters with my Mom)
- It's a Wonderful Life YES / yes (saw it with my Mom when I was a little kid)
- Jason and the Argonauts NO

- Monsieur Hulot's Holiday NO
- My Life as a Dog NO
- My Neighbour Totoro YES / yes (one of my absolute favorite films as a kid, saw it with my Dad)

- The Princess Bride YES / yes (saw it with my Mom when I was about 9 - she was worried I'd be afraid of the "ROUS"s - I immediately fell in love with it and watched it almost every day as a kid.)

- Raiders of the Lost Ark YES / yes (only Indiana Jones movie I've seen all the way through, saw it with my Mom)

- The Red Balloon YES / yes (saw it with my Mom I think when I was realllllly little - I know I've seen it but have very few memories of how or when or what it was about)
- Romeo + Juliet YES / yes (I don't know how, when, or why though.)
- The Secret Garden YES / yes (this and "The Little Princess" are the best children's films of all time, hands down. Thanks again to Mom.)
- Singin' in the Rain YES / yes (thanks again to Mom.)
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs YES / yes (this time thanks to Dad I think.)

- Star Wars YES (thanks for nerdifying me at a young age, Dad.)
- To Kill a Mockingbird YES / yes (I can't remember if I was 14 or just over - saw it with my Mom.)

This list strikes me as oddly eclectic, I'm not sure what I think of it. I find it interesting that many of them I've been having trouble finding on Netflix. I've seen 21/50, and thanks mostly to my Mom and French classes.
