Sometimes, The Little Things....

No matter where you are, sunset hits rain-laden clouds the same way. It made me smile, and feel like I was in some fantasy land.

So, today was incredibly hot and humid. It still is, in fact. Thus I sat on my ass and read Ask Prudence. It is an addiction, I tell you! As I read, my mind wandered to an internship I wanted, but couldn't manage to get together enough to apply for. I checked the company, and it is still available! Am going to get my resume and cover letter in order, and email it right away. Am banking on being overseas as being impressive. If not, I can mail it when I get home in a little more than a week.

After that, I was completely jazzed, so I started writing the sociological difference paper for Harumi. It's now around three pages long and teh beautiful. I learned a lot of things here, especially about my identity. Funny how going to such a group-focused country would make me realize the individual I am. *grins*

As I was writing, the sky suddenly darkened, and the wind picked up. Before I knew it, a storm had broken over the house, and I needed to close all of the windows. Then Kotoha came in with her Elmo and Bear and hung with me. We had a nice conversation about how strong the wind and rain were, and how I had warned Amanda about the storm. Heh, and she didn't even close her window before it hit. *tsks*

Played in the living room after that and pretty much spent quality time with my host family. I sure am going to miss them. I wish Japan was MUCH nearer to home. I am happy we spent so much time here though. Went to the store and grabbed enchilada makings. Funny thing is, chicken is really cheap here. I got two huge chicken breasts for about two bucks, boneless and skinless. Another thing is that sour cream is really expensive. I got a little container for around 3 bucks. It evens out in the end, but was hilarious when I saw the difference. Cheese is also expensive, but not so much. Found some good cheddar, and that will make the big difference.

Am hopeful for these! There is no baking pan to be had, but I have a plan...

I shall make the enchilada insides first, by stir frying them in a pan. Then I will put those in a bowl and heat up tortillas in the microwave. I will then make enchiladas san sauce, and make them crispy in a pan. I shall make the sauce in a sauce pan, and as each enchilada is done, a person can come get one and cover it with sauce. This will be served with rice. I think it will work! I won't get the casserole effect, but I will get a crispy enchilada with a thicker sauce. I am excited to see if it works. Either way, it should be fun.

Yesterday Allie, Amanda and I went to Ueno Zoo. It was a nice enough zoo, and we saw plenty of animals. Something about Japanese zoos and aquariums is that they have specimins from all over the world. We saw meer cats, bush babies and other neat things yesterday. Only downside is that the pens are mostly too small for the animals in them. Which made us a bigt sad and concerned, but there are zoos everywhere that have that problem. Makes me want to go to Woodland Park Zoo and compare the two. I shall post a few pics tomorrow!

After the zoo we met up with Kaitlin and went to kareoke at Big Echo. Who make you order expensive drinks. That was a little sucky and expensive, but we did have a good time. Much old song singing was done, as well as Allie showing us what, "Japan the Time is Now" is all about. Such a weird, hilarious song.

After THAT, we went to Shinjuku for dinner and clubbing. I kinda don't want to go to Shinjuku Ni-chome again. Really, there's no point for me, and it made me a little nervous to be completely surrounded by men. Would have felt the same with all women... I guess I like a mix of people, like at Gas Panic. I kinda want to go there again...

In other news, I called Dad today and we talked about everything under the sun. Mom was out at a birthday dinner for a friend, so shall call tomorrow to see how that went. We also had a little earthquake. Fourth one since I've been here!
