How does time fly so fast? 0_0 Where have I been, let's see... Well, I buried myself in needlework projects -- four cross stitch projects and three crochet projects currently in progress. Writing came to a halt unfortunately, despite some excellent beta feedback (very belated thanks, DT!) Weight loss also came to a halt thanks to a broken foot -- happened about a month ago (already!), the first two weeks I didn't even know it was broken, just that it hurt, and when I mentioned the pain to my doctor while seeing him for something else, after he investigated he said "I think your foot is broken". I just stared at him for a moment, he recommended me to a nearby podiatrist which I was fortunate enough to get an appointment with that same day, he took x-rays, and, yup, nice hairline fracture. High pain tolerance has a downside, kids. :P I was given a soft cast and a surgical shoe, and while I was able to go to work, I ended up going home early a couple of days as well as staying home three straight days, which I'm sure lent a lot to healing. This past Wednesday I went in for new x-rays and it's healing very well, I was downgraded to a wide ace bandage and resting my foot as often as I can. By the end of each work shift it's usually aching a lot, but an hour or so of resting at home helps ease it. So, while I'm stuck in one place with my foot raised I cross stitch my heart out.
I've also returned to painting Christmas Village houses since I have a backlog from last year as well as finding a few I had forgotten I packed away in the Big Room. Hurricane Irene knocked out our power for a couple of days so during the daylight I would sit outside and paint, enjoying the peace and quiet. I was actually a little disappointed when the power came back on. It was nice not having the T.V. on 24/7. :P
In other news, my dad has retired from work. Technically he's on vacation this week, but Oct 1st is the officially date. ...I already want to dropkick him. :P I have plans to banish him to a man cave made from my sister's old room, but until my foot heals completely I can't be lugging junk around. Yep, barely a month after she moved out her room became another junk pile.
Also, she's getting married in November. O_O I shouldn't mention the word "Bridezilla", but....yeah.
In gardening news, this was not my year for vegetables. We had a hail storm that damaged several of the plants, then Hurricane Irene took care of the rest. I did get one last decent batch of string beans, though. The flowers survived well enough, and although my one giant sunflower was severely battered by the hurricane winds, it still managed to bloom! I nicknamed it "Quasimodo" because the storm left it hunched, but didn't stop it from flowering in the end. :)
Before all the storms I transplanted a Rose of Sharon from the backyard that also bloomed, and I filled in the front garden with more mums since they do well there. It's very colorful right now. :) I don't know if the roses are going to bloom again. I trimmed them back so they wouldn't take over again. :P Alas, my foot prevents me from playing in the dirt, too, so the weeds are taking over and there are some straggling been stalks that I didn't get around to pulling up. On the upside, that could look good in the Halloween graveyard setup. :)
I'm sorry if my absence caused concern. I would say I'm taking a break from technology, but I'm guilty of using the XBox a lot of the time. Having Netflix when you have to stay off your foot can get you addicted to TV shows, being able to watch one episode after another and all. :) Good background noise when cross stitching/crocheting, too.
Take care, everyone. I hope I'll have some good jack-o-lantern photos coming up. (I don't know what I'll carve yet!) I'll also remember to bring my camera to the Horseman's Hollow this year. }:-D
Edit: Livejournal, Y U NO let me go back more than two week's worth of Friends' entries?!
