Stuff on TV.

I don't usually watch crime shows, certainly not real-life ones. Who wants to see people die in horrible ways? Not me. My dad's latest thing is watching all these shows, he claims because there's nothing else on TV (we have only a bare-bones package, so I'm not sure which is worse: if we had a larger TV package, he'd monopolize the TV on those boring war and military channels instead of crime shows!).

But every once in a while, I'll catch one that sticks with me. Today I watched one on this tragedy. My initial interest in it was because the doctor involved also did abortions, and being pro-choice, that's an interest of mine and I wanted to see if anti-choice violence had any hand in it - being that there have been a lot of terrorist acts against clinics and their workers, I wouldn't have been surprised if that was the case. But in this instance, it wasn't.

Basically, this doctor was being a little more secretive than he should have (nothing too bad, though he was probably breaking a couple of drug and professional laws/ethics by giving extra medications to a patient with mental/emotional-related problems), his wife mistakenly thought he was screwing around on her and threatened to leave him, which sent him into such a panic that he totally flipped his shit and killed her. One could argue that this guy had other issues to freak out this badly over the whole deal, though by all accounts, theirs was an insanely happy marriage - 14 years - until this secrecy killed it, and her, literally.

Just goes to show - communication in a relationship is *essential*. It's one of the reasons why, years later, I'm not surprised that my own parents are having problems (money-related). Whether or not they'll eventually split - they nearly did in 2007 - remains to be seen. I only hope that if I ever hitch up with another person, we'll have the good sense to be honest with each other, even over the little things. Because sometimes, it really is the little things that can make or break you.
