Got in contact with a local lady who does the TNR program (Trap, Neuter, Release) for feral cats. She brought over a cage and, assuming that I can entice Freddie into it Monday night, she will take him to get neutered on Tuesday morning. Even better: it won't cost me a dime, unless I choose to make any donation towards the TNR program (which I will, because fixing intact animals = GOOD for everybody).
Then she got me with the bad news: Freddie will be tested for, among other things, feline leukemia. If he has it, they will put him down then and there.
I feel bad now because I might have just signed the poor cat's death warrant, and all I wanted to do was help him. :( The other night I bought a towel to put on my doorstep for Freddie to sleep on, since he appears to be hanging around my house almost all the time now (after a period there of about 2 weeks' absence), and when I look out my window at night, I can see him napping on it. Bless his little heart. Yeah, I'm a sucker.
The lady did say that she's fixed a lot of cats from my street area, and all but one came out negative for leukemia testing. Assuming things go all right, she'll bring Freddie back to me Wednesday (she keeps them overnight for observation, to make sure they recover all right) and he can continue living out his life as a normal outside cat. (I can't keep him inside because Sam hates other cats.)
*sigh* Freddie, you little snot, even though you bit me and caused $700 worth of bill damage that I'll probably be paying off for the next 6 months at least, I still like you, ya little fuzzball.

I am so burned out on my job. I dread the coming week. Ironically, this week I got 3 days off, 2 of them in a row. Sure would've been nice if they'd bothered to give me this time off last week, y'know, when my parents were visiting? /sarcasm
