After nearly ten years of pretty solid hosting by
CI Host, I'm in the process of moving
Durosia.com and
Dragon-Pen.com to a new host.
Why? Mainly because CI Host has more power under the hood than I need. More than I've ever needed, in fact. I've never used most of the stuff there. The management tools are good and complex and, really, made for someone who's more of a tech-head than I am. (Though it's nowhere near as abstruse as the tools I've had to work with on RackSpace.)
I liked CI Host, but I like a consolidated stable with quick and easy to use tools better. At least right now. If any of my sites really take off, CI Host is going to be the first place I head back to. They've got top-notch equipment and people there. Years ago, when one of the first big worm-DDoS-storms took down a whole lot of hosts, CI Host was back up in about a day while others were down for nearly three. You really can't beat that.
They're the first web host I went with and the place I registered my first domain through (that would be Durosia.com, which I've had since about 1999-ish). I got a great deal back then and they've kept up by upgrading my account. (I actually have no clue what my full package there entails at this point, so much has changed.)
So, now Durosia.com and Dragon-Pen.com will be hanging out with
The Searcher Journal,
Toob Talk and
How to Crush Without Being Crushed over at
Living Dot.
Living Dot markets itself toward bloggers. Their plans are priced pretty good and include a stock install of WordPress or Movable Type. For what I'm doing right now, the basic account I have there is plenty. Stats and usage are easily accessible and, if I just need a little upgrade, there's upgrades to be had.
Times change, and while the address is still the same, all my data is living on another batch of hard drives in another data center.
It's a little strange to think about.
But there it is.
