A frog on your head kind of weekend?

Well, at least it was for a while.

That frog was very popular (as usual) at the impromptu party that nofcna and starsoup7 pulled together. rhiannon720 and badaye were there, it was kind of like a mini-reunion from the old office.

Except, you know, a lot more fun than work ever was. :)

There were more people there, but I doubt more of them are here in LJ land (and if they are, someone let me know!). pakgwei has better pictures than I do. He was there longer and, well, is generally a better photog than I am.

I bounced from that party to atlantisdc.

Getting there was not half the fun.

Not sure when--or if--the more direct bus would be coming by, I made the five minute walk back to Wisconsin and Cathedral Ave. After waiting for about fifteen minutes for the bus I was expecting to be by in five (based on what I could read of the posted schedule), I decided to hoof it back to the AU metro stop. Just as I made that decision, the more direct bus made the turn down the road I had just left. According to its schedule, it shouldn't have been running that way at that time.

And so began the adventure.

Suffice to say, the walk would have been pleasant if I had begun it with any real inkling of just how far it was and if it had been about ten degrees cooler. As it was, I spent most of the time thinking "It's got to be just over the next little hill, right?" and the rest thinking "Gah! Dehydrating!"

The good news is, none of the buses I had actually been waiting for passed me until I was about five minutes away from the metro. So, my time to the bar wasn't impacted much at all, it would seem.

Once there, things were fantastic. bllmpcaptain's birthday celebration was in full swing with cake and people and fun and stuff. I had a good time talking to a bunch of people, including entropicalia's lovely British friend, caligulette. We talked a bit about movies and sci-fi, good stuff all around.

The night ended with me observing a very interesting exchange between her and one of the (way too many) street dwellers that frequent the Dupont Circle area as the more well-to-do inebriated throngs make their way from the bars to their homes. We too easily forget that those nameless men and women we pass are actually men and women. Without a doubt, some of them will disappoint you with their lack of grasp of their own situation, but this guy last night seemed to realize all too well where he was in his life.

Hopefully, the conversation made a difference.

Then again, conversations like that always do.
