Cable guy showed up on time (a little after noon) and tried desperately to get my Internet connection back up.
He was quite unsuccessful. :(
It didn't help that he had to go through every modem he had in his truck and then make a trip back to the office to get two more before he got one that was in the Comcast system correctly. And he spent an awful lot of to time on hold each time he had to do anything. I think Comcast needs to take better care of their "on the street" tech people.
As far as he could tell, there was nothing wrong with the signal coming in and nothing wrong with the hardware. All of the problem seems to be in the signal communication that verifies the modem and sends info back to the main office. This may require a line guy to be sent out to check the lines and whatnot between the building and the road.
Who knows how long that will take. Or if it'll be effective. I mean, all the signal measurements are OK... and I'm apparently the only one having this problem. How big of a line problem could it possibly be?
I am currently "borrowing" some bandwidth from a nearby unsecured network. (Yay! for silly people, I suppose.)
This makes me quite unhappy.
At least
atlantis_dc was fun tonight. I needed that--to get out of the apartment and feel some sort of connection with people. I rely a lot on LJ, e-mail and IM for that feeling of connectedness on a regular basis. Why? Mostly because there's so many people spread so far apart. And we won't even talk about trying to get people's schedules to match.
It was all so much easier in college, when we were almost all on the same floor. Also helped that we had very few real-world responsibilities to attend to and actually could hang out 'till all hours.
Ah, well... expect electronic communication to be sporadic until this mess gets resolved.
Hope everyone else's weekend is going smoother.
