This morning I heard a sort of popping sound and discovered a small leak coming from the roof. I think I caught it right at the start, as nothing seems to have been damaged by water. It's just over the kitchen table, and I can see that the ceiling has been patched before at the point where it's coming in. Just a few drops so far, but I will be keeping an eye on it. For now, the lasagna pan and a towel seem more than adequate. If I had any sort of tarp, I'd consider going up during a lull to cover the leaky bit on the roof, but I have no materials for anything like that. It's going to be a while before it gets properly fixed, given our landlords' record, so there may be a Home Depot run in my future.
The rain and winds have stopped for now, and from what I can see, there is no flooding nor any downed trees in our area. We have not lost power, so mostly we're just lazing around watching movies and drinking wine. I feel pretty lucky that our worst problem so far is boredom.
As a Californian, I happily scoffed at last week's earthquake. As a Floridian, my husband is casting a similarly cynical view on this hurricane.
