4 days in Brooklyn

So yes, I am back from my long weekend in New York. We packed in all the things we wanted to get done and still have plenty of time to relax. Now isn't that the most important part?

Where did I leave off? Took the subway to meet up with my sister on Friday afternoon. From there we headed to the Radical Lace & Subversive Knitting exhibit at the Museum of Arts & Design. It was absolutely inspiring! We stood with our mouths open watching a video of Dave Cole knitting a giant American Flag using excavators and recycled street lamp poles as needles! Check out that here! At the end of the exhibit I was itching to knit. As luck would have it, they had a table set up so you could knit a few rounds on service projects being sent to our troops.

Before we hit the subway to head to Little Italy, we stopped at Crumbs Bake Shop to pick up a few cupcakes to have for dessert after dinner. My sister always raves about their cupcakes so I needed to try one for myself. We picked up a Carmel Apple and an Artie Lange (yes, that Artie Lange) that we split later and both were delicious!

Then it was on to Little Italy, where we walked up Mulberry Street and checked out the menus. This is certainly quite an experience. The hosts and hostesses approach you as you are checking out their menus and try to get you to eat at their place, trying to lure you in with their specials and saying things like "Bella, Bella, you look hungry! Come eat here!" I try so hard not to crack up. We found a place with some great pasta specials and they set us up with a table on the curb so we could people watch.

Saturday, we got up and drove to Williamsburg for the Renegade Craft Fair. It was fun, and the weather was great, but I probably do not need to go back next year. A lot of the same stuff from last year. I did pick up a few inexpensive knitting patterns from the Knit-Head booth, but that was it! I don't even think my sister spent a dime.

We were starving by the time we finished checking out all the booths, so we wandered up the street and found a cute little place with some outside seating, called Kitchen Delight and had an inexpensive & tasty meal.

After lunch, I took my sister to the Pathmark so she could get lots of groceries for a change since she had my car available to her. This time I found rockstar parking right outside of her building! Saturday night we made a big taco dinner and she introduced me to one of her old school favorite movies, "Rad". Why have I never seen this movie? Ha ha!

Sunday we slept in a bit, made a pancake breakfast, and walked up to the movies to see "Knocked Up". Now, Sunday was the hottest day of the weekend and when we arrived at the theater the signed said "Our air conditioning is temporarily out of order." We decided to be brave and do it anyway. At first I did not think I was going to make it as we sat in the theater, but just before the movie started I could feel the cold air. Only for Judd Apatow would I make this sacrifice and he did not let me down!! I was so excited to see some of the old crew from "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" that I elbowed my poor sister each time they came on screen.

So there's the highlights. There was also lots of wedding shower planning for my cousin. I think we have it under control. The good thing is she did not want to be surprised, just wants to not know the details. I get too nervous trying to surprise somebody that I end up avoiding them! I did not want this to happen. Next week I go with them to sample the menu. Woohoo!

My drive home today was uneventful, which is always nice. Seems a lot hotter here in the Phillyburbs than it did in Brooklyn.
