Also, SUPER SPOILERY thoughts! Do not continue unless: (a) you have seen all of the Untamed or (b) you don't plan on ever watching it.
Last chance to duck out now! SPOILERS AHEAD!
A month or so ago, Metherion shared a set of funny (non-fannish) videos with me that set various moments from Internet kerfuffles to pseudo-serious music. The most popular is the second one. Take a minute (literally) and watch it. I'll wait!

Okay, so there was a vid in the vidshow that used the "Internet Drama Part 2" music as the soundtrack! I could not stop watching it. Here's the vid embedded from YouTube; it's also on AO3. I have deliberately not yet read any of the comments from other AO3 viewers, because, well, I have thinkings that I want to pursue to their logical end first.

Here are a few thinkings I had the first 2-3 times:
Okay, clearly Wei Wuxian is Helen, Jin Guangyao (formerly Meng Yao) is Caroline, Lan Wangji is Alicia, and Lan Xichen is Doris.
That moment when Lan Xichen realizes his dear friend is evil is perfect for that eerie filtered harmony on "careful who your friends are." WOW.
The Broccoli Casserole Recipe is Wen Ning in zombie form! Stealing the recipe=taking control of Wen Ning (who is controlled by music) away from Wei Wuxian.
Or wait-the Broccoli Casserole Recipe is Wen Ning in zombie form AND the use of music to affect someone's mood/spiritual health, another magical technique that Meng Yao steals and perverts for his own use.
Oh! Maybe these tie together-the Broccoli Casserole Recipe is the use of music for magical purposes, be it to take over Zomebie!Wen Ning or to destroy Nie Mingjue's spiritual health.
After a few more viewings, I thought:
Maybe there's something meta going on. The Untamed wasn't originally released on Netflix; it was released on an internet service and is still sometimes referred to as a "web drama" or ... an "internet drama." LIKE THE NAME OF THE SONG. OMG. The original "Internet Drama" vids are so deliberately extra, so wildly overwrought, musically and visually, all about various trivial incidents ... could the vid also be a lighthearted commentary on all of us who reacted so emotionally to The Untamed? I mean, the first time I actually cried during The Untamed was when Wen Ning killed Jin Zixuan--which is one of the first "broccoli casserole" moments in the vid--because I knew there was no turning back from that point.* Or am I overthinking this?
Clearly I need to watch the vid a few (dozen) more times. And possibly rewatch The Untamed, just to make sure. ;-)
*The second time I cried was the reveal of Lan Sizhui's identity.
