It all started around our first date, I told him that I had always wanted to go on a picnic at night because I had this amazing picnic basket from pier 1 that I had never even use had imagined going on a lovely picnic with a wonderful man, it being so terribly romantic, of course. Well anyway, a week later he tells me one night that he has a surprise for me on Friday. So I am thinking maybe we might go on a picnic or something, but I had no idea. All week long he was "getting things together for the surprise" and so I was mindboggled...especially because none of the hints he gave me came together. Well Friday rolled around and I went to work (I am a secretary at my old high school in the summer months when Im not in college) and I look up and there is an amazing bouquet of a dozen red roses. And Im not talking just any red roses, we are talking the biggest most beautiful roses I have ever seen in my life (I had told him before that I loved huge roses, so little did I know it he ordered them the next day, saying he wanted the biggest roses they could find!) Anyway, when we had planned on going to the movies that night so when I called him to thank him for the roses, he told me that there would be a change of plans...for me to dress nice but comfortable (impossible for a girl, btw...) and that he would pick me up at 8...
So I put on a chiffon like blue sundress from Express and anxiously await his arrival...he comes in with a tie! I was so impressed. So he tells me that we are gonna go have dinner at this restaurant called Patti's (it's one of the nicest places that we have where I live, its close to the lake and its amazing, my fave. rest. and he knew that, of course) So anyway, I think that the roses and Patti's is my surprise, and Im just as giddy as can be. Well we finish dinner and he tells me that he has one more surprise. He then drives me to the "Land Between the Lakes" (LBL for short) and pulls up to this spot overlooking the water. As we arrive he says thanks to someone in a car ive never seen (later I find out it was his brother and sister in law) and I see the most romantic thing I have ever seen-6 tiki torches lit, along with a white blanket, MY picnic basket, a stereo playing music, and a cooler full of goodies...such as grapes, cherries, strawberries and whipped cream, and wine and cheese. There was also champagne. I was so full of emotion. I just started tearing up right there. So he takes me by the hand and walkes me to the blanket, its amazing, the lake, the stars, the music, the food, all of it was so much more than I had ever dreamt it could be. So as we sat there he gave me a piece of prose he had written for me...it was beautiful. Then at the end of the paragraph it said something about a bracelet symbolizing our new love for each other. He then gave me this beautiful bracelet with both regular and white gold coming together as one and he said it represented the two of us. I was so emotional and he was so precious, I could tell how much time he had spent and effort, not to mention money...and it was all worth it. It had to be the most romantic, most thoughtful, most touching thing anyone had ever done for me...and we had only been dating for 2 weeks! I knew that I had a great future with this man ahead of me...
So as we layed there, starring up at the stars, we talked about how we knew it was love at first sight, and how we were certain we were soulmates. We talked about our future together, about marriage and children and all of our dreams. It was perfect!
Since then we have also been on a daytime picnic to the lake, and although it was an impromtu thing planned by both of us, it was still very romantic. For our one year anniversary we celebrated in the same spot with a sunset/moonlit picnic again. It was so wonderful being in the same place, but so much more comfortable and in love with each other! It was wonderful!!
