so i guess there's (surprise) no linguistics program at university of Wichita. it looked like the only language they offered too was German...which is stupid. i can go to NYU, UCLA (HA!), Boston, U of T and a few others for linguistics. soo....i suppose i will just keep seeking information and settle in Wichita for a year if need be. hopefully the credits will transfer and all that jazz. i think university of Texas is probably the most appealing.
what to do, what to do?
[edit:]
so i looked into programs at u of Kansas. they do in fact have a linguistics program. HOWEVER...if i'm looking to work at an airport (which i am) it's near an hrs drive to the Kansas City intl airport from u of k. and my aunt and uncle live in Wichita. the admissions to get into u of k are pretty easy. i meet them and don't have to do anything other than apply. university of Texas in Austin also has the linguistics program as i said before. annnd the Austin airport is only 15 minutes drive from campus. a much easier commute. i don't know if Austin airport is hiring. but Texas is sounding like a better idea except there's no family there. Wichita is a bit of a drive from Kansas city anyway. u of t says you have to write 2 essays for admission, which i can do. it's a a lot to contemplate however i am really srs about getting this all done.
what's your take on all this? anyone? i am going to begin getting this all sorted out soon. i should be able to get numerous grants. they both have study abroad programs too!! hey hey! i never thought i'd be so excited about school.
[edit II:]
okay sooo i've already missed the deadline for u of t. however Austin community college wouldn't be a bad place to start. they offer German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. i could deal with that. it's a 15-25 minute drive from the airport. i just need a stupid studio apt to keep for me to sleep. i just need to look and see who's hiring next. US Airways flies to AUS, so does Continental, Frontier and American. hopefully there will be an abundance of jobs. i will have to check with Marc to see what he thinks on all of this because he lives there. i'm thinking it sounds promising though. go to cc for a semester or 2, raise my gpa, take good classes and transfer to u of t. hopefully too i will qualify for living in the state as well by then. i'm so frickin' excited!
