Catch up or Catsup?

I really should keep up with this journal more.

The new job is taking some getting used to, and I've been working overtime (usually at the beginning of the week). I'm excited to see my first full paycheck on Boxing Day (I got my first one already, but it only had a week of work).

The nice thing is that I get to carpool with my dad. When I buy my car, probably sometime in Jan-Feb, we can take turns driving, but it's nice for now that he drives. The only time it wasn't nice was my first day, when he made me 15 minutes late (stupid snow!) and this past Tuesday, when he worked from home and I drove Mom's car and we had a blizzard. It took me two hours to get home! TWO HOURS! For a commute that's usually 30 minutes.

I know it's a combination of working 8AM-5PM (or later), the job using a lot of brainpower, and the fact that it's dark when I leave work, but I've been absolutely wiped by the time I get home. Plus sore. The constant looking down and up is agitating my stupid neck. On the plus side, come January 1st, I'll have health insurance, plus dental AND vision. It's almost like I'm 25 years old and living and working in America.

Truth be told. with the economy and the job market like it is/was, I'm just glad to have found a job. Although when you go out shopping or for food and everywhere is packed, you do have to wonder about the economy a little.

Christmas cards are done and sent. Christmas shopping is done, wrapped, and nestled under the tree. We're driving up to get Mason tomorrow (he's done with college! yay!), and Meggie and Co are driving up as a surprise after Christmas (well, a surprise for Grandma). Plus, actual plans for New Year's that will hopefully pan out. I have to work til 5 on New Year's Eve, but I figure I can catch a 6-8pm train and make it downtown and to the bar in enough time. Hopefully I will not be snowed out like last year, dammit. YOU HEAR THAT, DECEMBER!?

Not much is going on. I'm so tired during the week that I don't do anything. On the weekends I try to spend time with my grandma and clean my room, which has inevitably gotten grotesque during the week. Last week, I had to spend the night on my grandma's couch because of the ice storm. But we were making cookies, and It's a Wonderful Life was on TV, and it was nice.

I spent a lot of money on gifts this year. I dipped into my savings for it. But I had to, since I didn't get a proper paycheck before Christmas, and also because I love gifting. I'm so impatient now, though - I want people to open their gifts now! Pfft. Five more days (four, probably. Yay for Christmas Eve traditions).

I bought stuff online this year and have had a horrible experience at all three stores. I still haven't received the last piece from two of the orders, and the other one FedEx screwed up the delivery (and eventually, after I called them, redelivered and just left it outside even though Mom and Eric were home the whole day). I don't know if I'd do it next year.
