Forgot to mention - Dad, Mason, Eric, and I went and saw
Men In Black II yesterday afternoon. It was okay, I guess. The talking dog annoyed me, as did Lara Flynn Boyle, and the blatantly not-nearly-as-good-as-the-first-one feel of the entire movie. I would call it a letdown, if I didn't already read a review that basically gave away the entire movie and its subsequent mediocrity.
Anyway, after the movie, Mom, Dad, Mason, Eric, and I ate dinner (cheeseburgers & brats) outside, under the gazebo. It was nice - it did actually cool down. It was gorgeous out... except all the little gnats that flew in our face. They drove Eric inside.
After dinner, Dad, Mason, Eric, and I played croquet. It was a lot of fun. Mom yelled that Rob Lowe was hosting the NYC fireworks, so I ran inside, found a tape, and recorded it while we were playing. Croquet was great, even though Mason hit my ball backwards and Eric kept getting mad that he was losing. Eventually, we were all trying to get the balls through the last two wickets at the same time.
I won. But it was fun anyways - especially when Dad unintentionally makes the ball hop over the wicket and when Mason hit his ball almost onto the sidewalk. I'm just glad, for Karma's sake, that Mason lost. hehe
After croquet, the entire family (sans Grandma) piled in the van. Using creative routes, we headed to Gurnee, where we proceeded to park in the pulling in lane of the packed Post Office. We had an excellent spot for the most amazing fireworks I'd ever seen.
Kudos to Gurnee! They had TRILLIONS of fireworks - definitely put our town's to shame - and there was a minute pause - maybe less - and everyone thought it was over. The motorcycle guy next to us left. And then - KABLAM!- more fireworks. So many more. And they ended it with about a hundred of the really bright white ones that pop really loud - my favorite. It made the sky look eeriely white. It was great.
All in all, a good, seventy - that's right, gorgeous seventy- degree day.
