fish! babies!

I have spent the last two hours playing Aquarium 911 with my roommate. I have in my fish tank two Mickey Mouse Platies, a Dalmation Potbelly Molly and a snail. The Molly was ENORMOUS when I left my house earlier this evening. Two hours ago, I noticed she was suddenly skinney. After taking a closer look at the aquarium, I saw baby fish everywhere! In the rocks, hiding in the plant, around the filter and a dozen or so underneath the castle. I had to remove mom because she was chasing them and eating them. Bitch. So I scooped out seven babies because that is as many as I could catch. They are tiny and fragile and fast, so this was a difficult process. Then, we went back and forth trying to decide what to do with the babies to give them a chance at surviving. So! We came up with an experiment of sorts. There are a dozen, maybe more, babies in the tank fending for themselves against the three adult fish. I have no way of helping them, and they are on their own in the tank. Five babies are in a big glass vase of water from the tank. They are safe and will be fed ground up fish food, but I don't know if they can live in a non-filter tank. Two more babies are in an experimental baby chamber in the tank. I took a clear plastic cup, cut the bottom off and attached a fishnet hose to the top of the cup. I then situated the cup in the tank and attached it to the side of the tank so that the cup is submerged except for about 1/4" which sticks above the water. That way, the water from the tank is able to flow in and out of the cup, but the bigger fish cannot eat the babies. So the babies can grow in the same tank and be fed the ground up fish food without being eaten by mommy. Along with all the fish action, I am also growing water plants that should be taking root soon. It is a very lively 5 gallon world.

Expect fish updates.

Also, I recieved my Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the mail today. I am more than a little excited. Seriously, holy effing shit. I also have a 2gb memory card for it. And am getting a telephoto lens for christmas. If I can come up with 350 for an ultrawide lens, I will be oh-so-set. HOLLER.

Baby fish + new camera = forgetting about school.
