Today is my one-month Pokemon Go anniversary!

I was obviously aware of the game when it was first launched, how could I not, but I missed the Pokemon fever as a kid, so I didn't really think much about the game either. N downloaded it immediately, but Niantic's servers were a total mess those first few weeks, so the gameplay wasn't particularly enjoyable, and he abandoned it after two days.

Then N and I went away for a short trip with A and S in late August, and S spent quite a bit of time showing and explaining the game to me, trying to tempt me into joining her. I figured why not give it a whirl, and got the app when we got home.

My first catch was a Squirtle (because I didn't know to wait for Pikachu), and it all went from there. It turns out this is the perfect game for me: it's pretty much a to do list of catching 'em all, it gets me out of the house when nothing else does, and I don't have to fight anyone to progress in the game.

Most of my mundane Pokemon have been captured on walks with N, but I've also made a few trips to catch some of the rarer ones. There's a small island just off the coast of Helsinki, Suomenlinna, that is absolutely teeming with rare Pokemon and is the Pokemon Mecca for anyone in the capital region.

I'm also insanely lucky in having a Pokestop on our backyard, which I can reach from our sofa. Plus there's a gym 5 minutes' walk away from the house. S hates me. *g*

In the month I've been playing, I've reached level 23, walked 132 kilometres, captured 1411 Pokemon, caught 104 unique Pokemon in my Pokedex, and made it to 20 candies away from evolving a Gyarados.

So that's 47 Pokemon to go, and I'm getting a bit worried for the winter. The days are already getting colder, and when we reach below zero degrees (never mind -20), not only am I not going to want to go outside at all, but how well do you think my iPhone is going to take it?
