Introverts R Us

Oct 28, 2013 21:17

When it comes to being social, I tend to vacillate between "I hate people and things" and "I like doing things with people". Both are equally true, it just depends on what's happened before that.

Last week reads like a "how to figure out if you're an introvert" booklet.

On Monday N and I went to see The Fifth Estate in the cinema. Not that I really had to interact with anyone other than N, but it's still a little break to my normal evening routine of quietly reading at my desk.

On Tuesday I stayed after work with a few coworkers to play Formula D, a Formula 1 board game of all things, that actually turned out to be really fun despite my initial skepticism abut the subject matter. It didn't take longer than a few hours, but it still cut into my usual 'me time'.

On Wednesday I went to a Bowling For Soup gig at Hammersmith Apollo. It was the first time I'd heard Bowling For Soup live, so I don't know if it's a thing, but for some reason they played all songs at like 1.5 speed compared the album versions. And somehow they still played for two and a half hours! I was at home around midnight.

Jared, the singer, had some sort of death flu, and he pretty much croaked his way through all thirty-some songs, occasionally assisted by other people. At some point Jaret called on stage one of their crew members (his official title escaped me) who apparently had a British girlfriend and was very happy to be meeting for again. So much so, that he called the girlfriend on stage and proposed there in front of everybody. It was kind of cute, even if I would be horrified to have something like that happen to me.

It was their UK Farewell Tour, hence the long faces.

A random photo of the band.

The proposal.

I just thought this was pretty.

On Thursday one of our new developers organised a nighttime photo walk on the Thames for anyone who wanted to come along and learn to take photos at night. My old compact camera didn't have enough settings to put his teachings to best use but I think the photos came out alright.

The London Eye.

The London City skyline. Well, some if it anyway.

Sadly the Tower Bridge isn't quite as glowy in real life.

By the time I finally got back home, around ten in the evening, I was really feeling the strain of not having had enough time for myself. Plus I'd just been walking around for three hours, so physical tiredness joined my already exhausted mental state, and I was barely able to get out of bed on Friday morning, and work was torture.

I had fun every single night but I was just so drained after four days of going out and interacting with people. Even if I enjoy it, it takes a lot out of me, and I need to recharge for a long time. We did absolutely nothing over the weekend, just stayed inside and listened to the big storm make its way across London.
