Holy Inception reunion, Batman

(No spoilers, unless you consider talking about casting one.)

Okay, I knew about Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, obviously. And when I saw Albert on screen, I remembered that, hey, Michael Caine was also in Inception. And when Marion Cotillard's character appeared, I was chuckling to myself, thinking about what it might've been like on set. But I'd totally forgotten about Cillian Murphy being in the Batman films as well, and by the time he made his appearance, things took a turn for the truly absurd.

Suspiciously coincidetal casting aside, it was seriously, the most amazing ending to any film series ever. Beforehand, I was worried about the length (three freaking hours!), endless angst and Anne Hathaway not living up to Michelle Pfeiffer's legacy, but of course Nolan knows what he's doing.

The three hours did feel too long but on the other hand, I can't really say what I'd have cut (..maybe the vertabrae scene) and nothing felt like obvious filler to me. And there were surprisingly many funny (and fun) scenes, including Hathaway's who totally filled the 15" boots left for her.

I have to say, though, that we were lucky to see the film in Finland, where everything is subtitled. There were more than a few lines that were lost to Bane's mask, and I've read even native speakers complaining about it. Plus I'm not sure I entirely understand why they wanted Tom Hardy to play the role in the first place. You can barely see his face, you can't hear his voice, he had to gain weight for the role.. Well, at least he has expressive eyes?

And I can only echo amanuensis1 when I demand someone give Gary Oldman an Oscar already, for god's sake!
