So yesterday around 3:00, a girl that I met from Richmond named Meg and I took a bus from Oxford to London with the intent to search out tickets for Phantom of the Opera. After an hour and a half bus ride and a ride on the Tube, we arrived at Leicster Square and in the theatre district. We went to a ticket booth where they informed us that Phantom was sold out and that there is no way we could get tickets. I refused to believe this, so we went to 2 more, both with the same results. Meg was starting to think about other shows we could see, but I wasn't giving up. We walked to the theatre it was playing in. I walked up to the counter and asked if there were any tickets for the night's show. The guy behind the counter smiled and said we have a couple. I almost passed out. We got 2 of the last 4 available! The guy behind the counter (who was about our age) started cracking up because I got really silly when he said that. About that time, his computer crashed when he tried to run Meg's credit card. When he saw my horror stricken face, he reassured us that we had tickets.
After securing tickets, we had dinner at a Thai place across the street. We ended up getting fried bananas with coconut ice cream for dessert. Yummy! We headed back to the theatre, and I went a little crazy at the souvenir counter, buying a shirt (which is really cute, I will post a pic of it soon) and the big and small programs. We took our seats on the floor and shortly after, the show began. I had goosebumps when they started the music. The Phantom's voice was incredible! Meg and I cried at the end. There is something about the stage performance that makes it so much more touching than the movie. I left incredibly happy. We got back to Oxford around 1am.
Unfortunately, my happiness from seeing Phantom was subdued this morning when I finished reading Harry Potter. I can't say much more, but let's just say I did a repeat of crying my eyes out. I love the books so much and I want the 7th one now.
Today the whole group took a bus to London to go see A Winter's Tale at the Globe in London. On the way, our bus's clutch broke and we had to pull over while we waited for the next bus. As I'm sure you can imagine, the bus was making some lovely noises. We made it into London just in time. It was really neat to see the reconstructed Globe and the whole theatre in the round. The actors were dressed in tradtional Shakespeare clothing, and interacted with the audience. The second half was definately better than the first, and the seats were rediculously uncomfortable, but it was definately a neat experience.
I've been in a whirlwind. Another paper due tomorrow. I can't believe how fast time is flying now. I have exactly 3 more weeks before I leave. wow.
