one big blur.

So the past two days have been a huge blur. Two nights ago I went to the Harry Potter release party at Borders books. They had 3 live owls there, and all of the staff were dressed up. We found our place in the reserved book line and began to watch people and talk about our suspicions. Every once in a while, one of us would do a little dance of joy. There was some old guy there on a microphone that kept trying to get everyone to cheer and reading off Harry Potter facts. There was also a group of about 7 American 14 year old girls that just tried to slide into line behind us and cut the ever growing line. Courtney and I pointed them to the end of the line twice, and finally the guy they cut told them to go to the end of the queue. The just moved over to the next bend in the line and cut them. When we got close to purchasing our books, they looked over at us and were whispering under their breath, because they were so very far away. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. So, I finally got my book and we rushed back to St. Johns. I read the first 5 chapters before passing out. Unfortunately, I haven't made it past Chapter 6 because of all we did yesterday, but I plan on reading all day today. I love Harry.

The next morning we got up early to go to London. It took about 2 hours to get there because of all the train stops. When we arrived in Paddington, we picked up the tube maps so we could see which lines weren't working. Although we had to go in a lot of roundabout ways during the day, I was really impressed with London's ability to quickly get back on its feet.

We went inside Westminster Abbey and saw the graves of all sorts of people including Mary Queen of Scots, Charles Darwin, Newton, Chaucer, Lewis Carrol, Sir Walter Scott, and many many others. Afterwards we had lunch and went to St. Paul's cathedral. Courtney, Ashley and I decided we didn't feel like paying the £7 to get in, so we went to the Dali museum instead. We got to see over 500 of Salvador Dali's works, and a few from Picasso too. Apparently Dali was rather obsessed with erotic images, particularly the phallus. hmmm.

Then, we decided to track down Prince Edwards Theatre because we bought tickets to see Mary Poppins! We didn't have enough time to eat dinner, and our cheap tickets put us pretty high up, but it was well worth it. I was blown away with the performance. They did a lot of neat tricks on stage so that Mary could pull out huge things from her bag, and at one point, Burt even tap danced on the ceiling of the stage. The story line was a bit different and adapted from the books, but they used most of the Disney songs. The Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious number and Step-in-Time were by far the best.

We left the theatre and fought through the swarms of London night life to get back on the tube. I mistakenly thought we could get a train from Kings Cross to Oxford, so we went there first. Unfortunately not. So, We took the Victoris to Bakerloo and got on the last train out of Paddington to Oxford. It was exhausting.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, when I was on the Bakerloo line earlier in the day, they suspended travel because someone had left an unattended package at the next stop. It was really kind of scary.

I visited the Natural History Museum of Oxford and got to see real live dinosaur bones. I instantly reverted to my childhood dream of wanting to be a Paleotologist and spent many hours in there.
