Catching Up

I can't believe it's been well over a month since I've been on LJ. Seems like every time I get a free moment and I don't nap, I've been trying to catch up on laundry or posting on leelafish.com where I can publicly keep everyone updated ( Read more... )

I caught up on all your posts on Leelafish the other day finally, and I think I was crying few little hormone-induced tears at the end. She is just so beautiful and you are such an awesome mom.

Claire was the same with pacifiers and bottles. It was frustrating, especially when we had to travel, but we got through it. Lewis took a pacifier but still hated bottles. Both of them took to the soft sippy cup nozzles amazingly though, and from early ages, though they never had their main milk feeds from them.

Here's my completely unsolicited advice on that- maybe try her with just a tiny bit of milk, after a feed if she's awake and happy, just to get her used to it, and not as part of her main feed? I've found that when mine are starving they just don't want ANYTHING but what they're used to. When they're a bit more full and happy, they'll try some new things. Lewis is still like that- if he's eating dinner and isn't really liking it, we'll switch to the fruit/yogurt that he has for "dessert" and let him eat that, and he'll usually finish the main savory course happily afterward. He just wants to not be hungry before he starts thinking about new things! We never did get him to use a bottle though, but I didn't try very hard.

You are doing a great job, the first month is the hardest. I remember being so completely overwhelmed with Claire- no sleep, covered in poop (poor mark!), toe-curling pain whenever I breastfed; but at the 6 week mark I took even her colic in stride. I am sending you so much force and thinking about you a ton.

I am so relieved to hear my daughter isn't the only one to reject bottles and pacis! It seems like every other mom I've talked to had no problem with their kids moving to bottle. It's been so frustrating!

Believe me, any advice on these topics is appreciated. I am so new at this and grasping at straws.

We tried feeding her from the breast a little first and then giving her the bottle. Still no luck. She screamed and screamed and then went to sleep. She absolutely refuses it. But, we're still trying. I just hate to see milk go to waste!

At least she's sleeping longer now. I'll take that!
