So, I had my first official job interview yesterday.
I had spent last semester sending in applications for an internship job without any success - then all of a sudden a company I hadn't even applied for called me on Monday morning asking if I could come in for an interview for the position of Business Analyst the following morning! Of course this happens after I was all prepared for going to school this semester. Mra. The interview went well though, and I'm just waiting to hear back from them. It was actually pretty crazy as everyone at my house had an interview yesterday - so hopefully at least one of us get something.
In the meantime, I'm taking 4 classes at school: operations management, human resources, a senior level marketing course and a psych class just in case this job doesn't pan out. It's kind of annoying not really knowing for certain what I'm going to be doing over the next 4 months but hey, I'll deal.
All in all, Christmas holidays were pretty sweet. I might as well do some explaining on that front to get back into the journal groove. My first day off, I went to the Brazil night at the Cherry Lounge to watch my buddy Brent, among a whole group of other people, do capoeira - A Brasilian form of martial arts. It was freaking AMAZING! It almost didn't seem physically possible to do a lot of things they did. I invited my friend Matt to tag along, and we were both impressed like woah - we kept looking over at each other with "DID YOU JUST SEE THAT!!!!?" looks sketched on our faces. Definitely a night I was glad to add to my collection.
I had a good time with Matt that night too. I don't think I will ever tire of his animated hockey stories. I think he gets more excited every time he tells one. Anyway, we exchanged Christmas presents and he absolutely flipped when he saw that I had got him Flames fuzzy dice for his car. Apparently he'd been looking for them for awhile now. Go me! He got me this nice bath stuff - this ball that dissolves in water and has flowers and stuff!
After the capoeira demo was over, Matt and I left and ran across the street to where he had parked. "I'm loving your parking spot Matt!" I cried, and then through chattered teeth we came to the conclusion we needed food and drove to the south for some BPs. Before we went in, Matt insisted on looking at his car from the front to see what the dice looked like. I was like omg... Inside the conversation revolved around sports - which wasn't in the slightest surprising considering it's Matthew. After filling up our empty stomachs, he drove me home.
I managed to get a whole lot of Christmas shopping done in those next few days before Christmas. My Grandpa came up for the holidays and spent roughly 5 days at our house. Christmas was pretty much the same as usual. For awhile there, my Mom was possibly going to go to Ukraine, but she ended up staying home with us. We had our usual family game nights and I took the title of ultimate boardgame champion. The biggest shocker of Christmas was the digital camera my parents bought me for Christmas - in case you haven't noticed the sudden increase in picture quality and picture posts period.
On the 28th, I took Paul to the Collective Soul concert for his birthday/Christmas present. We had a fuckin' blast! The Waking Eyes and Social Code opened for them. During the concert, this big girl managed to barrel her way to the front pushing and shoving the entire way. You can imagine how thrilled those around her were. She then had the audacity to start asking people for a smoke. After awhile, she broke out in a heated verbal fight with a couple of people. It ended when some girls persuaded her to leave in exchange for a smoke. She came back a little later on and did the same thing in another section. Although this time she started pushing people and jumping on them. Eventually security was notified and she was taken away as everyone cheered. The following day, Chris L. came over to kick back and talk for a little while. It was the first time he's ever been to my house so that was cool. I still don't know how me managed to con me into walking him to the train station considering how cold it was that night. I practically ran the entire way back home.
New Years Eve Day, my neighbour Cameron and I went our for lunch to Boston Pizza his treat. We then headed off to see Ocean's 12, which in my opinion was pretty good for a sequel. And well, I've already documented my New Year's Eve festivities in a previous entry, so moving right along...
My buddy Jeremy was out of town over the majority of the holidays, so that sucked. I guess now is as good of a time as any to explain how Jeremy fits into my life. We've known each other for almost 3 years now, but didn't really start hanging out until this past September. We've grown incredibly close over the last months, hanging out on a daily basis and to the point where I consider Jeremy one of my best friends. Throughout the semester we were especially known for organizing Den Night - getting a bunch of people together to go to the campus bar on Thursday nights - a tradition we hope to carry on this semester. Anyway, he called me like 6 minutes after he got home and relayed all of his adventures. Apparently Jeremy got school supplies for Christmas - binders, notebooks, pencils... And let me tell you Jeremy was just SO impressed with that lol. About as much as that guy who got a stapler.
Jeremy also missed his bus home in Edmonton because he was sent to the wrong gate. He got really bitter, especially when he found out it was a 5 hour wait for the next one. He decided he had had enough of the bus depot and left to wander around aimlessly. So what did my dear Jeremy do to pass the time? Well, first he went and got a haircut of all things. Then he decided to go to some swanky Elephant something or other bar where he got a little drunk with some random people before he went to go see the movie Closer by himself. Haha, this is why I love Jeremy.
I worked the first Sunday of the New Year, and the following morning I set off on my trip to Saskatchewan, which you can also go back and read about if that sounds remotely exciting. I got back on Sunday night, I started school, went through the interview process and here I am!
This morning I made quite a few phone calls. One of which was with Jordan. I guess I'll explain Jordan too considering I think he will be another central character in my journal over the next while. Jordan came into my life the night Ryan broke up with me back in November. I guess I didn't really explain that either - in time I suppose. Anyway, I had been pretty upset as I hadn't seen it coming, and I really wasn't in the mood to be partying it up at the Den, but I decided it was probably better to stick around instead of going home and being by myself. Anyhow, I was over by the pool table and Jordan just walked up and started a conversation with me out of nowhere. It wasn't long before we found out we both used to live in Regina, so that kept the conversation going for a little while. I wasn't able to give the conversation my 100% though because I obviously had other things on my mind. It was a wonder I was still able to carry on conversation and keep people engaged. I just kept replaying the phone call with Ryan over and over in my head, and trying to maintain my composure.
The Den closed shortly thereafter and he insisted on walking Paula, Steph and I out to the train station, but unfortunately we had managed to miss our last train. He helped Paula and Steph out with catching a cab, and went back inside with me so I could call my friend Paul for the ride he had offered. Jordan had said he had wanted to spend more time with me that night somewhere, but I had been pretty wary about going off with someone I had just met. Jordan said he stay with me until Paul showed up as it was now 2:30 in the morning and he didn't want me to wait alone.
Anyway, I ended up unravelling the story of that night to him. I don't think he really saw it coming to tell you the truth. I couldn't believe that I was explaining all of this to some guy I had met like an hour ago. I don't think he had been expecting that. Most of the people I had seen that night didn't know, and still don't know what what had happened as I had kept up a pretty good front in my opinion. We ended up talking it over for awhile. It really helped considering Jordan himself had just been through something somewhat similar so he was able to say some very right things.
Paul showed up soon thereafter. Paul was nice and drove Jordan home as well. As soon as we got in the car Jordan was like, "Wow, that's awesome of you came all the way from the south to come get her." And Paul said, "Well, thanks for waiting with her and making sure she was okay." I was like awww... I like being taken care of.
Coincidentally, I ran into Jordan again weeks later, again at the Den. This time, he insisted it not left be up to chance running into each other again and gave me his phone number. We've talked on the phone roughly once a week ever since, just getting to know each other a little more each time. So that's gone on for roughly a couple months now, but we haven't hung out. Then, the last time we spoke before I left for Saskatchewan, he mentioned that some time he'd like to have me over so he can cook dinner for me - which was a sign of things to come. Tomorrow night may be the first planned time I hang out with Jordan as he may be making an appearance at the innaugral Den Night of the semester.
Wow, did I ever get more sidetracked there than I was intending. So yeah, that's Jordan. Hmm, what else? Oh ya - today was ferociously cold by Calgary standards. -40 celcius! Another good friend of mine that I met this past semester and whom I already mentioned earlier on in this entry, Matt, offered me a ride home. It was incredibly nice of him as I live on the opposite end of the city and it must've taken 45 minutes to get there. I was impressed that he made it to my house without any help and despite all of my trying to throw him off track. So if you're reading this Matt, thanks so much!
Anyway, my hands are hurting from typing so much, so I'll have to get into the rest a little later on.
