Alberta/Saskatchewan Trip

Jan 11, 2005 20:41

Hello boys and girls.

Today, I bring you Morgan's Saskatchewan Getaway complete with PICTURES. I know you're all just dying to know what I've been up to ;) so without further ado...

Monday
My trip began last Monday morning when I had to drag my ass out of bed to make the 8:30am bus to Medicine Hat. Well, more like my Mom had to drag my ass out of bed, but hey. I managed to arrive at the station with 15 minutes to spare, and was soon boarded on the bus talking with a young man named Jared. It seemed Jared had had quite the evening beforehand. On the way to the bus depot his cab was involved in a fairly serious accident, and next thing he knew, he awoke to find himself in a hospital. He spent the night there in a neck brace while they removed shards of glass from his body and literally froze his eye to protect against the chemicals that had splashed on his face! Jared the flooring apprentice and I continued talking for a good part of the trip to Medicine Hat.

No sooner had we arrived when I saw Collin walking across the street to meet me. It was good to see Collin again - it's ridiculous that in the 5 years we've known each other, we've only ever been in each other's presence twice! We got into his car and zoomed off to his house where we watched my favourite movie Pirates of the Caribbean. We pretty much kicked back for the rest of the afternoon and most of the evening. In the evening, we checked out National Treasure with Collin's buddy Kris.

My darling Collin

A picture of Collin's crotch! Gee, just what I've always wanted......

Tuesday
The following morning, I slept in while Collin went to school. Eventually I got up, fixed myself some breakfast and got ready in time for Collin's return. We hung out for a little while longer, and soon it was off to the bus depot again to continue with my trip. Thanks for putting me up Collin. Sorry you didn't get as much BS as you were hoping for ahah! ;)

That's hot.

The ride to Regina was fairly... uneventful. It was like... c'mon, at least give me a hill to look at. Something! We stopped for lunch/supper in Swift Current, and I struck up a conversation with an elderly woman over chicken noodle soup about Calgary and the tsunami. When my bus was called, she thanked me for the conversation, and then pulled out some Tim Horton's donuts for me to snack on on my way to Regina. Huzzah!

Finally, after 7 hours, I arrived in Regina, SK where Rowan was awaiting my arrival. Being the gentleman he is, he took my luggage out to the car. On the ride to Rowan's house, I was amazed at all of the snow! I had forgotten that it could be this bad. And the cold? I've turned into such a wuss! For the remainder of the evening, Rowan and I watched the movie Punch Drunk Love, caught up some and then hit the sack for the night.

Wednesday
The following day, Rowan and I ran some errands before the Rowan-Morgan competition began. First, we played a few rounds of Crazy 8's - none of which I won. Second, we had a mini 8-ball and 9-ball tournaments at the Broken Rack. We were tied in both, but unfortunately, Rowan came out with the win yet again. Determined to win at something, I challenged Rowan to an air hockey battle. Despite both games being extremely close the title ALSO went to Rowan. I was SO furious! Geez Rowan, you shouldn't be so selfish!

Rowan at Poverino's

That night we went out for supper at Poverino's, an Italian restaurant. On the way back, we encountered a flat tire - which was absolutely brutal timing considering how cold it was outside. It took quite awhile and some assistance, but we were soon back on the road again and heading to Rowan's house. When we returned, we made some hot chocolate... you know how no matter how much you stir and stir, you just can't get the powder to dissolve? Well, I sure kicked some Rowan-ass on that front as he was simply amazed as to how I had managed to make my hot chocolate powder-less! First and only win of the day. The night ended with Rowan and I watching the movie About Adam.

You can clearly see the superiority of my hot chocolate on the right.

Thursday
The next day I accompanied Rowan to his class, we went and got the car serviced, had a delayed lunch, plotted and then finished up the Stay at Rowan's portion of the trip when I was shipped to Manda's house for the remainder of the week.

Manda and I began our time together by going out for supper at East Side Mario's. We got food boxed up, which Manda ended up dropping in the parking lot on our way out lol. Good job Scrunch-face!

We then went to Michael's craft department store, and then to Superstore to get food supplies before taking a long aimless Regina driving tour (woo hoo!). On the way back, we managed to get stuck in a snow bank...right in front of Manda's house. It was pretty hysterical. It was even more hysterical when we were trying to push the car and nothing was happening. Eventually we decided to get shovels to try to dig our way out. Then all of a sudden this guy walking his dog came by and offered to help. He even went so far as to go back to his house for a spade, and insisted on digging us out by himself while Manda and I watched.

After about 10 minutes, we managed to get Manda's car free - we thanked the young man profusely and he told us it had been his pleasure to help - the truth was, he had actually found the whole ordeal quite amusing. Embarrassed, Manda and I went on inside. For the rest of the night, we made mozzarella sticks and were up to our usual goofy tricks.

Mmm... Christmas tree. Geez, someone looks a little too much into trees for her own good. Looks like someone needs a boyfriend! No, this is sadly somewhat of a tradition that goes way back - maybe one day I'll explain the story behind this.

Lookin' good Manda!

Friday
On Friday, Manda and I spent a busy afternoon shopping. She also took me to where she works so I could meet some of her co-workers and get a better idea of what she did. I was in 3/4 pictures at her desk! In the evening, we went out for supper with Rowan and his buddy Dave to Earl's.

Rowan et Dave also @ Earl's

Afterwards, we went to O'Hanlons, a downtown Irish Pub, where we met up with some other people before going back to Dave's apartment for a spell. Might I add I beat Rowan at rock paper scissors and him and Dave at Crazy 8's :) Revenge is mine mwahaha!

My future tombstone. They only make them that big for important people!

Saturday
On Saturday, Manda and I slept quite late. We got up and drove the long way to Moose Jaw where we had lunch at Boston Pizza before heading home. It was a rather pointless excursion, but there wasn't much else to do. It was there that we came up with the inside joke of the trip involving breaking a world record.

Manda made me supper that night. How romantic huh? She made me Balsamic chicken and banana cream pie. Yum! When we were at the grocery store we were telling the guy at the check-out about our "romantic dinner" and well, he was overly interested. You shoulda seen the look on his face!

That evening, the plan was to go to New Yorx, rated as one of the top 10 night clubs in Canada. Manda and I dressed up and set out for the night.

I must say I was impressed by New Yorx - well, for a Regina bar heh. Rowan, Ashley and her unclassified boy were slated to meet us there. Little did Manda and I know, we'd be seeing quite a few others that we knew. I saw people I used to go to elementary school with, people I used to play baseball with, people I used to live by - it was so weird seeing some of these people years later. And Manda - wow, she was Miss Popularity that night as we seemed to run into someone she knew every couple of minutes during our rounds. We also spent considerable time on the dance floor. I danced with Manda, Rowan, Meshan, Adam and this cute Matthew guy that I met later on in the evening!

After, we went to Denny's for a bite to eat. I was stunned as this was going to be Manda's first Denny's experience. I could only imagine what danielspice would have to say about that! This guy there was totally hitting on Manda for like half an hour while she was kind of being set up with another guy. It was pretty funny. We walked in the door to her house at roughly 4:30 in the morning. Oops.

Sunday
On Sunday, I spent part of the afternoon with Graham. It was awesome to see him again! We watched some drum corps vids and pretty much just chilled together and caught up. Brought back some old memories definitely. Thanks for getting me such an amazing Christmas gift Graham! I still can't believe you remembered that - that was like 2 years ago!

Graham and I

Manda and I putzed around for the remainder of the evening until it was time to get to the airport where Rowan was awaiting our arrival. We said our goodbyes *sniff* and soon I was on the plane back to Calgary.

That's pretty much it! Thanks to everybody who helped make my trip such a success - I had a lot of fun and it was fantastic to see you all again!
