Three days until the second part of Jane Eyre. I suspect I shall enjoy this half much better. It didn't help being sick during the first half. Although I don't know what it is with the recent upsurge of drop-dead VOICES-first it was Richard Armitage as Thornton and now it's Toby Stephens as Rochester-so rich and deep and warm and velvety- what can ( Read more... )

Jonathan Pryce is a fantastic actor. He doesn't get enough justice for PotC, and on stage he does an amazing skeezy conman (Miss Saigon) and was completely hilarious in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Really? All right. I've never seen him on stage. I guess I just took such an advanced dislike to his character in PotC that I have difficulty seeing past that. (although I haven't particularly liked him in other movies, either) Out of curiosity, what's your icon from? It looks vaguely perhaps like Elizabeth? But I can't tell...

I think the only other movie I've seen him in is Evita, and he was very good in that. His stage work is what stands out the most, though. The icon is from the musical Light in the Piazza. :)

Re: The Woodlanders:

I have a whole picspam on it here, though I must warn you that spoilers abound. It is not a tale of passion, and though I love Rufus Sewell, it was not particularly "hugely enjoyable". Watch Under the Greenwood Tree instead!

Thanks. :) I've already seen Under the Greenwood Tree-watched it fairly recently and found it very flawed but enjoyable. Woodlanders is worse? And not even passion? *makes face* this is why I run movies I'm ambivalent on by my flist first...And I LOOVE the text and coloring of your icon so much.

And ze picspam was both hilarious and very informative(not to mention loong discussion, which was also informative-*bang* goes any idea of watching Jude!)*sigh* elspethsheir, you really must stop destroying my illusions. Just think, I'd somehow imagined that Hardy was actually cheerful! But I really must put in a good word for Far from the Madding Crowd.

Hee! Jude is just a total exercise in depression. I am thankful to have seen it, but also thankful that I don't ever need to see it again. I think the only happy Hardy, with very little real conflict or angst, is Under the Greenwood Tree. I did love Far from the Madding Crowd (the book) and The Mayor of Casterbridge, but Tess... gloom!!

Jonathan Pryce is quite a good actor I do think. Pirates does not do justice to any of the talent in that film.

I think you should rent the Woodlanders. It is depressing, like all of Hardy, but Rufus is really nice looking in it! And I got to see him here!! :D Do you like the film Far From the Madding Crowd? I love it!

No, sadly. :( I've wanted to for quite some time, but Netflix doesn't have it. Wait-you got to see him?? And completely agree about Pirates-well-Johnny Depp, perhaps? Certainly not the others. I think I can honestly say that from watching that I would have no idea that Keira Knightley could actually act.

I've probably asked this before, but do you ever rent films from your library? I used to do that whenever netflix did not have anything and that ended up being loads better than netflix. It was free for me as well. Some universities also let you take movies out...if they have them of course.

Hahah! So you dislike or like Keira? I think her acting styles change in every film she is, therefore I like her in certain films {Doctor Zhivago, P&P} but I dislike her in others. She is not a versatile actress I do think. She needs to stick with non-obscure roles.

I had high hopes for Everett as Holmes, and was sorely disappointed. What was with all the emoting? Sherlock Holmes does not emote! But I blame the writers most. Who wouldn't prefer actual Conan Doyle material to CSI: Victorian London?

What film of 24 years ago is good?

Oh dear! That came out wrong. lupinskitten said they hadn't made a decent Sherlock Holmes film in 24 years, so I was attempting to ask what specific movie(s) she was referring to. I'm actually a big old-movie fan - and I adore The Philadelphia Story! (With that cast, how could you not?)
