You may have noticed my great dismay over the upcoming Dark Is Rising movie. You might have thought, "This girl sure is pedantic" and rightly so. Nevertheless! Witness the email I received last night from my sister.

Oh, you're not the only one. When I saw the trailer in the theater, I was all "Oh look, a Harry Potter rip-off of some kind. Looks reasonably fun, I guess. Kinda cheesy. And the kid's not as cute as Dan Radcliffe. But you never know."

And then the title came up and I was all "Um...what?" Because while I only ever read the first half of The Dark is Rising I was pretty sure that I remembered enough of it to be fairly clear in the conviction that the movie trailer resembled the book not at all.

I totally agree. The first time I saw the trailer in the theater I was like "Uh, is this based on that book series?" And then later I saw an ad on TV and I'm like "Did they just... borrow the name, or what?" So I looked it up.

WHY???

Does the action of this movie even take place in Britain? Because, um, I was kind of under the impression while reading the books (albeit probably a decade ago, now) that the setting was kind of, you know. Vitally important and all of that.

From the trailer, it looks like this is a movie about some kid with magic/psychic powers and Christopher Eccleston on a horse.

I've decided to drop out of art school to become a filmmaker (it's a logical progression, although I may wait a few years), and so I swear to you I will Make It Right as soon as the ten year (or less) limbo is over and I can remake it.
