I went to see Lady in the Water last night in the cheapies. I love the late showings; you come out at midnight, it's dark and empty, drive home with your head full of the movie and go to bed still watching it behind your eyelids. Lady was better than I expected, after the reviews. I thought it was extremely competent, and as usual Shyamalan set up ( Read more... )

Despite having a popular name, this has never happened to me. I just quickly checked at Amazon and there were two books that had authors with my name: one was a vanity press, full of poetry with a radio play and a short story by a high school senior, hoping to go into pre-med (yes, it told me all that) and the other was a Regency romance from 1980.

I really like Lady in the Water too, even though a lot of people I know didn't. I saw a TV interview with Shyamalan (I think it was the Daily Show, in fact) in which he mentioned that it was adapted from a fairy tale that he used to tell his kids... and as a modern day fairy tale, it was an awesome movie.

I thought that expectation was a major reason people didn't like The Village either; it wasn't horror, it was a beautiful drama.
