Things are starting to get pretty desperate. I read in the newspaper today that schools in the area are laying off teachers now. Drama classes are being cut, as well as foreign language classes (which is fine with me; they have no business teaching Spanish to k-12 kids). Also, it seems that the main distributer of chicken wings went out of business

However, I have a jaw disorder (TMJ) that is totally unrelated to my wisdom teeth, and it can cause symptoms like what you describe. In my case, I can't chew gum, because if I do the jaw muscles can lock up and the results are painful. This also happens if I eat too much french bread or too many tortilla chips.
I suppose it's possible that the surgery affected the soft tissue in the area.

I don't know. I only have problems with it every now and then. It typically only happens on one side of my jaw too. Maybe they overstretched one of my muscles in there so it's a bit more elastic than before?
I can chew gum, though my jaw does "pop out" sometimes while doing it. I haven't really experienced the muscles locking up so much as they go "woops! I was supposed to keep your jaw here, wasn't I?" Though a muscle lock might explain why I can't open my mouth all the way sometimes...It's not really painful, just a feeling that something is not right.
