[There's no much to see when the feed turns itself on, only the colorful fabric of Esther's pocket. But there's plenty to hear. Like a possibly familiar
soundtrack and the gossipy crowd who is watching a hit movie:
GIGANTIC.
And the irritating noise of someone obnoxiously chewing popcorn aloud.]
Father, close your mouth when you--
[Esther's muttered lecture is interrupted by her anguished gasp.]
Oh... John! Is he really dead? Poor Lily. Why is this plot so familiar?
No way! [ This vehement denial is clearly Abel's -- even around a mouthful of that delicious movie theater popcorn, his voice is recognizable. In favor of the drama on screen, Esther's protest has gone totally ignored. ]
He can't be! I bet he comes back at the last minute, right? There's a sequel to this one, isn't there!? It can't end like this!!
Of course this is the end!
[Petros cuts in, his voice unrestrained, sounding both pleased, bored, and irritated at the same time. What an unpleasant film. It is disgusting to him. And the obnoxious popcorn chewing isn't helping. Were he a bit closer, he would have aided the fool in shoving the popcorn down his gluttonous throat until no more remained. Even now, the idea is tempting.]
That man is a dead one. If he is not, he soon will be. It's divine punishment for his adulterous sins! Can you not see it? Look! The pathetic man is attempting to salvage his shattered honor by dying for another! It can end no other way.
There is nothing pathetic in someone dying so that the one they love can survive. Even if--
[Shahrazad sniffles as she speaks, obviously moved deeply by the tragic tale and trying not to weep openly in the theater.]
Even if they cannot live with them. Please be strong, Lily! You must live as John wanted you to! Your heart must go on!
Shahra's right, Brother Petros. It must be very hard for Lily and--[whispering.] I think you should lower your voice or we'll be kicked out.
