go benjamin!
I remember when I was 4 or 5, whenever I'd sit in my dad's truck, I'd stare at the word "choke" on the dash, and it always read "k-hohk-ee" and I'd sit there and stare at it and wonder what k-hohk-ee was. I don't know why I never asked. Sounds like he's got a better handle on phonics than I had, lol.

I REMEMBER Struggling with phonics. vividly. I think thats why I have a difficult time with spelling today.

His last state evaluation (which was just about 10 days ago) he as on par with the average 6yr old actually 6yrs5mths. *Shakes head*

Hes going to be a handful in school if we cant get him into anything but public school because when he gets board he likes to goof off and frankly, preschool with his peers bores him to tears. The school he is in has let him go up to the 4yr old room and he will be in with 5yr olds starting on Sept but it just isnt enough... hence our constant sojourns to museums and out with other people becaues hes so thirsty to learn

I also remember when I was in 2nd grade, looking at the 3rd grade's stuff on the board and wondering how the heck they get 6 from 2x3. Because 2+3 is 5, where does 6 come from? And same thing, I'd sit and stare and wonder. And probably got in trouble for daydreaming (not listening). I'm not sure why I never asked anyone stuff, I always just tried to figure it out on my own. I won spelling bees, had no problems with phonics or spelling. I got bored when they wanted us to write our spelling words 5x each ( ... )

I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. The ohio virtual academy is a charter school, so it's FREE, and it's basically home schooling following their curriculum/plans and overseen by their teachers (online/phone). So you can teach the curriculum as quickly as your kid learns, and supplement with your own outings and whatever you want. Your kid isn't held back by slow learners in a classroom so he wouldn't be bored. You'd want to get together with local homeschooling or virtual academy groups for the social aspect, but what I think is key is that there wouldn't be the "competition" like there is at the school. (like how my brother got bullied in jr high because he was a smarty pants). He'd be able to interact with the older kids (when you go on outings) without throwing him in 1st grade at age 4 or whatever ( ... )
