3 great Benjaminisms
ok so yesterday was a great Benjamin day. I forget how smart he is sometimes. Please keep in mind he will be 3.5 tomorrow.
He has now been reading for about a month. he understand phonics to a T; the only reason he doesnt get some words is he is IMPATIENT but he can if he tries and most of the time he wants to try. Try taking a 3 yr old to an aquarium where he wants to read every sign in site... until he reads the one that reads P-E-N-G-U-I-N-S and then he was off...
Well anyway,
GREAT Benjamin stories (in my NOT so humble opinion but Im the mom so I get to have that)
1) At 630am B came bounding into bed with me to announce that the letter 'B' was not only a letter but a word. and that B-e-e spelled BEE like a bumble bee, like the song mommy" then he begged me to sing the bumble bee song with him
2) When he got dresed for teh day he put on fruit of the loom undwear. on the inside of the elastic, all the way around it says fruit of the loom repeatedly. B started laughing and said "fruit of the what? " and I said of the loom and he said "thats just silly these are underwear, not fruit!" and acted all exasperated...
3) and the best I think... I told him that if he sat straight and listed to the hair dresser he could get a mylar balloon. $1 totally worth it.
well anyway, we went and got it. The new employee tied it to a string. I tied the other end ot his arm. We walk outside. you guessed, off goes the balloon. It did NOT come off where I tied it but where the employee did. So he says "lets go back in" which I was already on board with. I grabbed my wallet and off we went. When we got inside B walked right up to the balloon counter and said "excuse me sir, my balloon blew away and its because you didnt tie it right. I think you should give me another one" and the man gave him this stern look and he said "oh I ment to say Please" then took this huge deep breath. The man GAVE hiM ONE, no questions asked and B said "thank you".
So... we go outside and B said "you know what mommy, big grandma got that red balloon which is her favorite color, remember, sh got it in heaven so its ok" I got huge happy tears in my eyes. It was awesome. I was soooo proud of him in the store. I was so touched at the balloon thing. It was all just a great exchange for a great kid.
