042 Ahn nyung ha se YO! Back to kpop

Sep 15, 2010 20:40

My inner kpop fangirl has been feeling a bit spoiled for a while. After a somewhat disappointing beginning of the year, things are starting to look up. Every week I've got a few performances I'm looking forward to seeing - not too many though, cause that would be tiring - new singles /albums worth listening to, exciting comebacks, interesting debuts, etc.

Dalmatians

In the debuts department, there are Dalmatians. Okay, I know what you may think, how lame, right? Well, it's not exactly the manliest concept, I give you that. Someone decided (MC Mong, since he's their producer) they should be real dogs, but dalmatians, come on? Snoop Dogg exploited the whole dog concept, but he was a doberman, a rottweilers, a pit bull, not a freakin' dalmatian, mostly knows from a cartoon. Also, there's not 101 of them. Like, where are the remaining 95?

But putting that aside, or the occasional barking, bow wow wows and la la las, they are somewhat cool. You just have to look beyond the surface. I mean, it's pretty obvious it's deliberate crack and after the first set of wtfs, it gets kinda cute and funny.

Basically, these guys are what a group produced by Tablo was supposed to look like, imo. You know, hip hop-ish, laid back and joking around. They rap a lot - there are 3 rappers versus 3 regular singers (all 20+). What? It's better than 2 guys singing and 12 dancing.

So, following Dayday, let me introduce The Dogs.

Drama
singer
"the boy band guy"
Yeongwon
singer
Kobozuka bb?
Jisu
singer
"the Jamiroquai guy"
Inati
the leader
"the Facuza (F.cuz) guy"
Dari
rapper
"the EXILE (Włochacz!!) guy"
Dayday
rapper
the Miz

Wheesung

Then there's Wheesung with his comeback song - I even thought of marriage. Oh Wheesung, the diva. So he's not much of a looker; great voice, but I can't usually stand all of his whiny ballads. IETM is a great follow-up to Insomnia. Vocally, you know he's gonna be good. The lyrics are powerful too. Too bad he's not dancing.

Some interesting facts about Wheesung:
» his nickname is Real Slow;
» he's not friends with people who sing better than him (see: Hyoshin);
» he thinks Korean culture "has always been an entertainer's world with a sort of cheap quality";
» he's too busy and his skin condition is so bad, he doesn't think anybody would want to be in a relationship with him right now.

2NE1

The most anticipated comeback of the last couple of weeks (to the point of ridiculous) has to be 2NE1. Personally, I'm with Perez on this one. I like the album and I think it's good, it's just not great. And I was kinda hoping for epic. I wish they had turned down the electro a bit (hi Teddy~) and focused more on R&B, with Park Bom's voice made to sing R&B. So far, my favourite 2NE1's song has been I don't care and it's gonna stay this way, I think. But I like Can't nobody (especially Minzy's part: "cause I'm so bad bad, but I'm so good good..."), and my personal second-best as of now - Go away. I like the meaning of the song, and you can actually hear a solid R&B music in the background.

The video is pretty impressive too. Fast cars and violence? Sign me up. Minzy's looking hot. Here's some transformation for you, from Daesung to damn. CL, blonder than ever, kinda resembles me. Let's see:
» used to be fat(ter);
» still doesn't like her legs;
» strongly attracted to toxic guys?
Yep, all checked.

Wait, can you say "shit" in a Music Video?

I've only seen one comeback performance of 2NE1 on Inkigayo so far, but I'd say they've never looked more like female Big Bang than now.

San E

One more debut to cover. Ladies and gentlemen, meet "The next big thing for JYP Ent" - San E. For once, I've seen a really smart and catchy, yet low-key debut promotion. The humorous teaser, followed by a set of hilarious posters? Funny! Made me realize I'm seeing way too little of JYP family.

Think about it, San E is not a slim, leggy, hot chick. He's likewise not a buff shirt-ripping beast-like guy (more of a please-keep-your-clothes-on kinda dude). In no way, shape or form could he be considered handsome and he's not even a great dancer. So in all probability, he should be screwed. But here he is, debuting from a major kpop label.

That's what I like about JYP. They don't really believe in plastic surgery. After all, Park Jin Young himself is not exactly the fairest of them all. Everybody ready almost made me faint - no auto tune! What's more, no auto tune on the whole album. The guy's a skilled and renown rapper. He raps. End of story.

Everybody ready reminds me of Eminem's The Real Slim Shady, where he's making fun of everyone. I saw the Wonder Girls, 2PM, Park Jin Young (the Gorilla), but where's Rain? The granny or the tiger? The dancers are pure awesome. And that chick San E drives around on the back seat of the motorcycle looks like Go Soo in drag ~haha XD.

The album is full of collaborations (Min, Junsu, JOO, Yenny). It's hard to pick favourites, but I love Junsu's voice in B.U.B.U. and the song with JOO.

PS: irisguns

Shameless self-promotion. I'm posting my Western fandom graphics @ irisguns now, the latest being Cast your life picspam, so check it out if you feel like it =).
